Has anyone tried the new Chinese restaurant in the Broad Ripple/Glendale area? King Dragon, I think is its name. Close to Papa Murphey's and Cork & Cracker.

I'll venture a guess that it tastes a lot like every other King Wok Star Garden Phoenix Happy House place in the world.

Hope springs eternal....I'll continue to look for a Chinese place with personality. I still miss Wok n Roll and its Cashew Cashew Gesundheit Chicken.

I've been there a couple of times; most recently I grabbed some carry out on Christmas day.
I had:

  1. Mongolian Beef - Good flavor, but a more apropros title would be "Beef & Onions", as that's pretty much all it consisted of, which isn't a bad thing, but I was expecting more variety in the veggie department. I enjoyed the fried rice accompainment, being a version that seemed fairly light & fluffy, not weighed down with a heavy hand in the soy sauce department. Contained therein were plenty of those oddly-hued pink pork bits, perfectly square carrot cubes, sprouts, egg and a smattering of tasty green onion pieces.
  2. Hot & Sour Soup - Chock full of veggies including an abundance of button and wood ear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, carrots, celery and tofu. Lacked the usual strips of pork, but that's okay with me. Hearty consistency, and although fairly tasty, it lacked the "sour" and the "hot" wasn't really there. Upon reheating leftovers the next day, there seemed to be more chili-heat present, probably due to the overnight in the fridge.
  3. Teriyaki Chicken Skewers - Very good; at least as good as my old neighborhood standby Chinese joint, Bamboo House at 52nd & Keystone.
  4. Vegetable Spring Rolls (2) - Quite good, nicely balanced filling of cabbage, carrot and wood ear mushrooms.
  5. Egg Rolls (2) - These were free because my order totaled more than $15, an unexpected bonus. I'm generally not crazy about these grease bombs, but these were actually very good. Obviously egg rolls are deep-fried, but these had none of that "soaked in grease" taste or feel to them. Although I ate them with my hands, I had no residual grease with which to deal and therefore no reams of paper towelage were necessary. Both times I've been there, the cooks and personnel seemed to be, um, let's say "experienced" and perhaps indicative of a seemingly higher quality of product than in most Chinese takeout parlors. Not saying the youngsters can't crank out a quality product, but hey, I'm in my forties, and it's nice to support us "geezers" when I can. :-) Looking forward to trying their Monday-Saturday Lunch Specials, all items priced reasonably at $4.25 .
