My husband just called me and said the Oldies radio station (95.9) now has some Mad Cow talking head show on this morning. First of all they kept making the music newer and newer (even into the 80's) and now they seem to have abandoned it entirely. If their ratings were down what did they expect with playing so much Elton John and even some disco?
When we first moved to Indy in 1993, Gold 104.5 had a loyal following and sponsored great concerts with thousands of all ages attending. When they changed format I believe their ratings actually went down over time, because they were "playing what they wanted" instead of what the audience wanted. One after another a station will pick up the oldies format then drop it; but what do they expect if they don't promote the station or it's so low-powered that it won't even reach to downtown? Most people I told about the oldies station had no idea there was still one in Indy and were excited to learn about it. Now it's gone. Just what we need is more talk radio. And why does everyone cater to the teenagers' musical tastes when it's the baby boomers that have all the money to spend? And are the teens even listening to radio? They all have ipods to listen to just what they want with no commercials. Why not target people who actually still listen to radio?
Just had to vent!
