Tomorrow night I know of a good one. Weeds of Eden -- is playing an show this Friday night at Center Stage Deli & Cafe, 970 Ft. Wayne, just north of downtown. We play from about 8-10 p.m.,with Don Ford doing a set sometime in the middle. For those of you who have been around town for a while, it is in the old Tim & Billy's salvage building, right across from the Red Cross HQ, where all those streets converge at odd angles. It is a nice, new artsy place, you can even bring the kids.
as far as INDY goes: listen, im 31. ive seen places come and go. go when you can, and dont be mad when theyre gone.
the Harrison Center for the Arts - the Underground; indie rock to thrash metal. if someone is playing folky stuff, you can count on it being a little more avant than 'if i had a hammer.'
the Emerson Theatre; sometimes books well known national rock and rap acts, but mostly mixed bills of punk, thrash, hardcore, metal, and yes, rock. admission is pricey, but worth it for a show in a big room.
the Irving; its not back and re-re-opened yet, but it will really be a destination for all sorts of nationally touring acts and underground artists. great room sound and in a safe place, Irvington.
good luck finding a house show/party. most all of the legendary ones are gone, but a few good souls still open their basements for the kind of stuff basements are made for = moments of great music with friends.
skip the coffee house scene unless you want a lot of boredom. no one ever gets loud enough from the stage, theres always some old bat raving on about flowers or brakes or some book that was only relevant five years ago. skipit.
always keep an eye on local message boards for shows of all kinds. the myspace indianapolis page has tons of people posting tons of shows. so start there. maybe indy.com?
oh yea- look at fliers, if you can find any. (BRVC, you stink!)
