I just stumbled upon a great little Indiana-made fan film schlock full of campy fun that just happens to take two icons of the 1960s and put them together for the first time.
Star Trek vs. Batman is a three-part story that joins the Dynamic Duo (the Adam West/Burt Ward era) with Captain Kirk and Commander Spock.
The story is as silly as it would have to be: The Joker lures the Starship Enterprise to the past and the two senior officers to the surface, where the Clown Prince of Crime turns them into mind-controlled zombies so that Joker can rule the world.
Of course, Batman and Robin have something to say about that.
It's a fan film, so of course none of the original actors make appearances. But those who do serve the film well. Scott Ganyo dons the cape and cowl as Batman, Joshua Ramsey inhabits Captain Kirk's hair, Leo Barczewski puts on Spock's ears, and Victoria Floro slinks it up as Catwoman.
The story has elements of several classic episodes, including "City on the Edge of Forever," and makes a stop in present-day Indy.
The obligatory Catwoman-Captain Kirk romance is fun and lighthearted, but has a touch of seriousness to it.
There are a couple of legitimate laugh-out-loud moments, including a tweaking of Batman's opening credits sequence that includes Spock applying the Vulcan nerve pinch.
The film is available for download at http://www.racsofilms.com/, and is well worth a look.
thanks 4 the tip!
I saw that at some movie theater/restaurant whose name I can't remember. It was quite funny... and I'm not even a fan of Batman or Star Trek.
The Spock-in-the-Batman-intro moment legitimately made me laugh out loud. It looked like a capture from the animated series, and the expression on the thug's face was priceless.
I didn't mention this in the review, but the costumes and sets were very well done as well. The Batman and Robin suits looked relatively authentic (I couldn't tell a difference, though I haven't seen the Batman series for several years), and the Trek uniforms looked right as well, and the Enterprise interiors were very much passable. It didn't feel like a fan-made set.
And seeing Catwoman, the Caped Crusaders and Kirk and Spock trapse around Indianapolis was fun too.
Chris Allen is a reallllllllllly good filmmaker and thanks for this Pub..I'm sure he appricates it!
