FRANKLIN, Ind. — An Indianapolis juvenile has been charged as an adult in the armed robbery of an affluent White River Township couple in Johnson County.

Marcos Arteaga, 17, 1500 block of Draper Street, was charged Monday with burglary resulting in bodily injury, felony, and dangerous possession of a firearm, a misdemeanor. The felony charge carries a maximum 50-year prison term.

Court documents show Arteaga and Bobby “Boogie” Jones on June 21 forced their way into the home of Drs. Anil and Swati Jain in the 4000 block of Waterbrook Way, Greenwood, in Golden Grove Estates near Saddle Club and Stones Crossing roads.Arteaga told investigators that he and Jones randomly chose the Jains’ home, describing it as remote and dark. The two stole several credit cards and got about $400 from one of the cards shortly after the robbery.Investigators on Monday continued to search for Jones, 19, who lives in the block south of Arteaga and faces the same charges as the 17-year-old.During the burglary, in which Arteaga and Jones covered their faces with bandanas and brandished handguns, Anil Jain was kicked and punched in the face, breaking his right eye socket, according to a probable cause affidavit.Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested Arteaga after executing a search warrant early Sunday at the home where he lived with his mother. Arteaga was automatically waived to adult court because of the seriousness of the crime, according to Johnson County Prosecutor Brad Cooper.“Automatic waivers are reserved for the worst of the worst,” Cooper said. “Based on him having been automatically waived to adult court, we’d all have to agree that he’s in that category.”Investigators were led to Arteaga after a tipster identified the teen from surveillance video of a robbery at a Speedway gas station on Shelby Street on the Southside. The same tipster identified Jones from an IMPD jail book-in photo.Arteaga, who was held Monday in the Johnson County Jail on $100,000 bond, faces up to 51 years in prison and $1,5000 in fines on both charges. No court hearing had been set Monday.
