I really only know of two venues that currently feature regular poetry readings. So if anyone else who might happen upon this blog knows of others, please inform the masses. (HA-HA -- like that many people read my blogs.)

Lazy Daze Coffeehouse has poetry readings every Thursday night. They are picking up the slack left by the closing of Corner Coffee (R.I.P.) that had been picking up the slack for Lockerbie Coffeehouse. The crowd was thin in the beginning, since there had been a month-long lull between when CC still hosted and LD began. But I went with a date to last Thursday's reading and by the end, there was a full house and more people were getting up to read. A good place for people who are looking for a small venue and I think it was also a good date spot, especially since there was also live music, although I can't say that the live music is a regular happening on those nights.

Barnes and Nobles in Westfield has weekly -- scratch that -- monthly readings on Saturday nights, starting at 7 pm. I attended one of those readings last year. There was a good crowd and there was a podium with a mic, so for people who want something a little less casual than the Lazy Daze readings, that might be a good choice.

This last mention is for something that is still to come. The Big Car spoken word nights will be resurrected fairly soon. Not sure exactly when though. (Maybe some of my BC friends can help me out here.)

Lisa: I believe the Barnes & Noble readings in Westfield are only on the third Saturday of each month, with a hiatus in December. That means the only opportunity this year to attend will be 7 p.m. Nov. 17.

The Writers' Center of Indiana sponsors a monthly reading on the second Sunday at the center, 812 E. 67th St. It starts at 7 p.m. and usually has a featured reader.

Kafe Kuumba still has free weekly readings on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9.p.m. at the Good Life Bar & Grill, 2816 W. 16th St. It's presented by by Midtown Writers Association.

Etheridge Knight Inc. is sponsoring a monthly reading on first Fridays at the Earth House Coffee & Books at Lockerbie United Methodist Church, 237 N. East St. $5 suggested donation.

Oops, I thought I might have that wrong. Thanks for clearing that up.

Also, thanks for mentioning the other readings in town.

One more open reading: Every fourth Thursday. 7:30-9:30 p.m. at The Studio School & Gallery in Irvington, 5610 E. Washington Street. (Except this month, since the fourth Thursday falls on Turkey Day, the reading will be Nov. 29. Host is Lylanne Musselman.

Hmmm. Two Thursday readings practically across the street from one another (the other being at Lazy Daze Coffeehouse).

This thread reminded me of an open-mic/poetry night that I came upon serendipitously at the Broad Ripple Starbucks. I went just to do homework, and ended up being thoroughly entertained. It's called "The Cypher" (myspace.com/btbcypher) and it just so happens that they have one scheduled for tonight, and every third Friday I think. There was one poet that really stood out to me as being a true artist of his trade. Not sure what his real name is, but he goes by Poet.Rican in the Cypher's friends. A couple of girls did an awesome Lauren Hill cover too.

Yes. Cypher! I forgot about it. Is it still hosted by Allen Imagery?

Okay guys, I think I have an answer to your questions...Check my latest entry (Poetry! Poetry! Poetry!), for a listing of the poetry venues in and around Indianapolis. I believe everyone is listed... I know of a few more in Columbus, Bloomington, and Muncie but what I've posted is great start for the city of Indianapolis...

Next Wed, 11-23, there's a poetry slam at the Melody Inn. I think at 8pm. But don't hold me to either thing, since there was a lot of drinking involved when I was informed.
