Democracy is the most revolutionary idea in the world. If you have power, you use it to meet the needs of your community. You've got to have a choice, choice depends on the freedom to choose, but if your shackled with debt you dont have a freedom to choose. People in debt become hopeless, and hopeless people dont(rarely) vote. If the poor turned out and voted for people who represent their interests it would be a true democratic revolution, so the government doesnt want that to happen, thus keeping its people poor, hopeless and pessimistic. There are two ways in which people are controlled: 1.frightened people 2.demoralized people An educated, healthy and confident nation is harder to govern. the government doesnt want us to be an educated, healthy or confident nation, because we may get out of control. A government should always be afraid of its people not the other way around.
