The name, "WB Pizza" does this little Northside pizza shop no justice. The slogan "The Way Pizza Should Be" is undoubtedly correct, although equally un-catchy. But don't let me steer your thoughts in the wrong direction; my trip to WB with my husband was exponentially more than expected.

The mood

At 2 p.m. on a weekday, we were the only happy, hungry campers to take up space in the WB dining room -- talk about personalized, speedy service.

I hate to say it, but the inside is also nondescript. Tables, a few booths and red walls make the small dining area feel cozy; due to another sweltering day, we selected a booth inside rather than patio seating. Just off the main room sits the kitchen where all the magic happens.

The food

The menu is huge. Based on what I've written so far, you may expect me to say the food was bland as well. You'd be wrong. It's delicious.

Appetizers, salads, sandwiches, calzones, pasta, dessert, beer and wine, and, oh yeah, pizza. Lots and lots of pizza.

Are you in the mood for a deep dish? A vegan selection, perhaps? You have four sauces to choose from, and oodles of topping options. Or, choose a specialty pizza like the Left Coast, topped with spinach, broccoli, roasted red peppers and onions.

There are stromboli and club sandwiches, pasta and shrimp salads, chicken parmesan and lemon pasta, and infinite options for calzones, since you can fill 'em up with whatever you like.

We were a little overwhelmed by the options. We started with the Mediterranean flat bread ($3.95), which came with cheese and garlic dipping sauces.

Seven-inch personal pizzas were our entrees of choice. My husband, Hayden, topped his with spicy Italian sausage, red onions and mushrooms. I picked the chicken pesto pie with red onions, black olives, chicken and pesto sauce. Each cost $6.25. A shared chocolate mint gelato filled our last remaining stomach space ($2.10).

Now, if you do find the menu too lengthy, as if that's a bad thing, you can choose the summer special: Two small chopped salads, a nine-inch deep-dish di Napoli (roma tomato sauce, four cheeses, and olive oil), and two gelatos for $19.95. An automatic two for $20!

The drinks

Nothing goes better with a high-carb lunch than ice water, which we both tanked up on.

The damage: $20.03

While hardly a hopping hot spot, WB should be. The service was wonderful, the food was wonderful. Why isn't there a full house every night?
