Robyn Hitchcock's appearance at Luna Music Friday night was a perfect example of what in-store performances by musical artists are all about. Robyn had fun. His fans were delighted. New converts were won over. The record store sold product. Fans wearing Soft Boys and Egyptians t-shirts got autographs and a few minutes of personal conversation, a chance to share stories of past concerts, gush over favorite tunes, talk about the upcoming shows on the tour. Perfect. Robyn was witty, bantering between songs about the inevitable deterioration of digital technology: "Bryan Ferry is literally falling off the compact disc after 15 years of listening to it." And how future generations will find some way to play vinyl record albums, spinning them from the inner grooves to the outer ones in order to hear the past backward. There was a special guest who sang harmony and who pointed out the "proper little mosh pit up front" where toddlers had a perfect front row view. The harmonies on "Queen Elvis" were transcendental. A new song about Brian Epstein raised the hair near my knuckles. Hopefully that song will appear on the soundtrack of a forthcoming biopic of the Beatles' manager. The full on Robyn Hitchcock concert is tonight (Nov. 10) at the Music Mill.

Wow, GREAT review: Cool toddler mosh pit visual.

Sorry I missed all the good times Friday (Hitchcock, Cracker)...I think I'll start taking the vitamins my dear mum keeps sending me in the mail.
