In my 9 years of being of age, (legal party age) I have experienced all types of clubs; in Indianapolis and beyond from the upscale to the hole in the walls. I need someone to tell me, where is the sexiest, classiest, plush yet private/intimate clubs in the city of Indianapolis? I received some suggestions about where to party in a grown up setting. I have visited The Six Lounge, The Seven, The Ice Lounge, Blu, Cloud 9, Subterra, The Blue Martini, Nickey Blaine, etc. but I have yet to find THE spot that feels like CHEERS where you can go and everybody knows your name!! Where are the exclusive/private venues that cater to business professionals, dating and married couples and those that don't frequent the every week matinees or club nights?
I don't have any answers to your question but it does seem that there are too many local clubs with numbers in their names.
I'm not much for VIP lines or exclusivity, but I love D'Vine a Wine Bar (on 82nd) because the folks who work there did take the time to learn my name and my drink of choice.
well i have been to all the places you have wriiten about. i was told that the subterra lounge was going to have a rooftop bar by the end of 2008. they told me that it was going to be the place for the business professionals, dating and married crowd. as they put it the grown and sexy crowd. i am looking forward to seeing this... just my 2 cents..
I don't get how you are going to compare a club to a Cheers-type bar. No one at clubs cares about you.
I think if you want that neighborhood Cheers feeling, you have to find an actual neighborhood bar where you see actual neighbors. Like, if I went to the Red Key, I'd probably see someone I know. But neighborhood bars aren't plush, private and exclusive. (For that you could join a private club like the Skyline Club or the Columbia Club or a country club -- of course, then you have the stuffiness issue.)
If I want to see a roomful of people I recognize, I go to Pat Flynn's. It's a loud, crowded Irish bar/restaurant, crawling with kids and definitely not plush, but it's a nice place to hang out with the family, watch the game or shoot some pool.
It's all about being a regular. Pick a spot and make it yours. It's less about the bar and more about you. If you have a spot that's yours and start making it your regular hangout, the bartenders get to know you, you start seeing the same people on certain nights, etc.
There's nowhere in town (or anywhere in the world, really) that is like that with complete strangers or occasional visitors. But when you become a regular, all that changes.
If you spend a good grand - 2 grand at any club you will have excellent personal service there the rest of your life. The other things is that you have to meet the owner of the clubs. There are thousands of visitors to their clubs every week and they can't care about you unless you show an interest to care about them. I have not been living in Indianapolis for quite a while now but I recently came back to visit for the weekend and visited the Six Lounge and it is by far the best lounge I've seen. I have been in southern Florida for the last 4 months which is where clubs are born and then spreads throughout the United States. This is the new club/lounge atmosphere people are looking for. Visit, spend some money, get to know everyone and enjoy! :=)
Go into D'Vine or The Chatterbox a few times, and they'll get to know your name...
