Every morning I drive down Mass Ave and right past the Richelieu apartments. And every day I am reminded how horrendously they f'd me over. (Short story: I get a call at 4:45 p.m. on a Wednesday when I'm supposed to be moving in at 8 a.m. Friday to tell me that the previous tenant never moved out and that they have no place for me to live. Had a signed lease; they'd already deposited my first month's rent and deposit, I'd already hired movers, etc. Lawsuit, got some money back but not enough to compensate for the stress and crap I had to deal with . . . )
Anyone else have housing horror stories?
One house I lived in while in Bloomington had little white colored inch-worms crawling all over the ceiling. It was also full of those awfyk cricket spiders. That house has since been turned in to a restaurant. YAY!
I screamed the first time I saw one of those cricket spiders. I'd never seen anything like it and it jumped and freaked the bejesus out of me!
That's awful. I can't believe they did that to you. I lived in Gladden Farms in Plainfield a few years back. I had a house built in Danville and gave the apartment office notice of my intent to move. The building process was delayed a few days, so I had no where to move with my wife and kids, so I asked Gladden Farms to allow me to stay a few days(1 week) and bill me for it. They forced me to sign a new lease by telling me to either sign it or get out. This after two years as a tenant, always paid on time. When I moved out, they slapped me with a bill for an entire year of rent. They eventually sued, I filed for bankruptcy, lost everything(resulting in a divorce), but that's another story. So I feel where you are coming from.
That's HORRIBLE. Renters rights in this state are pretty atrocious.
