So, anyone else ready to start freaking out about the strike? The prospect of reality shows dominating the airwaves even more than they do already is bad enough, but the fact that shows like "The Office" have (reportedly) been shut down completely (because several cast members are also credited writers), and screenplays are frantically being pounded out and shipped off to start filming, are just borderline depressing.
The thought of Tina Fey picketing her own show (especially when that show is oh so great) doesn't help matters, and the thought that the upcoming Justice League and GI Joe movies will ensure that another part of my childhood will be mangled, gnarled, chewed up and vomited on the big screen hoping to cash in without treating the franchises with the respect they deserve.
But mostly I'm just worried that we're not going to have any good entertainment to keep us occupied. Luckily for me I have about 30 films of my 202 list either DVR'd or in the queue. But what's everyone else going to watch?
The strike won't affect me since I really don't watch television. When I do have the spare time to sit in front of the tube, I like to watch DVDs and I have a list of cool classics to choose from.
300 films in my Netflix. 400 at home. I think I'll be okay.
Besides, from the quality of writing coming out of shows like "Heroes" and "Journeyman" lately, maybe a writer's strike will do some good. Go away and come back when you have some ideas.
Not you, Joe. The writers. :)
