So I'm looking forward to the January debut of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" on Fox with both anticipation and trepidation.

It could be the coolest thing since sliced bread -- an ongoing war between humans and nasty cyborgs from the future. Or it could really, really suck.

Either way, I don't see it as the type of show that will run 15 years. Too many overstay their welcome.

In England, they'll make 12 episodes of something and call it a day. I think American TV should give it a try.

A lot of the more cutting-edge stuff would work better if they set an end point. "Lost" is a prime example of a show that should've been completely planned out from beginning to end (after three seasons or so), instead of the rambling mess it's become. "24" should have lasted exactly one year, and then gone bye-bye. Now it's a joke.

But these franchises become cash cows, and the networks are reluctant to let go. It's the same mentality that gives us the 4,089th "Halloween" movie.

Here's hoping for two good seasons of "Terminator" on TV, then shut it down.

Wasn't Sarah Connor dead at the start of T3? Not sure I understand the timeline. I'd like to see them pick up after T3 and see the rise of the resistance led by John Connor.

This show takes place between T2 and T3. The idea is to build to Sarah's death, I assume. I have an advance copy of the pilot episode and wasn't blown away by it but it has room to grow into a pretty good show. It was a rough cut, not the finished product, I should add.

Makes sense. I seem to remember reading how Mostow hadn't ruled out a T4 someday. I was very happy with T3.

I personally found T3 a full step or two below T2, but I really thought the ending was terrific. Great twist on the films, and to actually have the guts not to end it happily.

T3 was great, other than the fact that it rendered T2 absolutely pointless. My spidey senses tell me this new series is going to blow chunks.

Such is the problem when you deal with time travel stories. But it did a good job of dealing with the theme of fate vs. free will, in the sense of it blew up a bunch of stuff in between it all.
