Feist blows up

One of the great things about living in a good-sized city with an active music scene is the chance to catch acts before they blow up into national fame.

Last year we caught Feist at Birdy's. It was a great concert in a smaller setting. I stood maybe 20 feet away from Feist. My girlfriend turned me onto her. I love her singing style; it's so unique in the way she emphasizes certain syllables and swallows others.

When she appeared in an iPod commercial, we knew big things were coming. Now she was on "Saturday Night Live" last weekend. Guess that means she's officially arrived.

The next time Feist comes to Indy, it'll probably be at the Murat or some other bigger venue. Cool to be able to say I saw her in a club with like 100 other people.

Yet another reason to be in love with WTTS. I know it's a plug but I really think they do a great job of exposing Indy to artists like Feist. First time I heard her was via them.

First I'd heard of her was (insert nod to modern-day-marketing here) the iPod commercial. Since then i've been rather voracious in tracking her music down and am wholly impressed. Side Note: Occassionally we sing (and dance) to 1-2-3-4 on a slow day in the office.

I'll second that! WTTS is good about playing artists like Feist, KT Tunstall, John Butler Trio, etc. a full 3 months before all the other radio stations in town. I listen to them more than anyone else. Now if only they'd play more Bright Eyes...

Bright Eyes? No doubt! Big fan. Newest album, Cassadaga, is very good. Check out 'If the Brakeman Turns My Way' for a good little track.

I'm glad for WTTS playing new artists. Now if they'd just stop playing so much Bonnie Raitt...

I can't deny you that one, John. I could also do without the all-too-often Collective Soul ...

The WTTS new music preview cd should be a required listen. It's free and every track features a different upcoming artist...very good listening.

Did anyone see Feist on SNL? Did she really need 3 banjo players?

One of the immutable laws of life is that you can never have enough banjo players.

I dicovered Fiest the same way, Chris. I saw her on the Ipod commercial, and I did a Google search. Now I listen to her often. Also, Braden, have you seen the SNL skit a couple years back with Will Ferrel? He was supposed to be part of Blue Oyster Cult, and play cowbell. Most halarious thing I have ever seen...

Is that the 2007 disk? Love that Kooks track...oh! and Vega's "Frank & Ava was the Starbucks free song of the day Monday! (gotta love THAT promo. Daily downloads-with-purchase from iTunes - so sad that it ends this Friday)

Can I join the plug parade? That is a nice track list. Great artists and great songs. My only issue is that TTS doesn't play all those artists on the air. But there is a local station that does! 91.7 WEEM in Pendleton. And two of the artists on this CD have actually visited its studios (Sea Wolf and Cary Brothers). 3 months ahead of the curve? Some stations are 6-12 months ahead!

I too was at the Birdy's concert, loving it from the balcony. I felt like I found a wonderful secret....that most people hadn't. I have to admit that I felt some disappointment when I saw Leslie in the Ipod commercial and when I heard several of her songs played on other commercials. Your thoughts exactly! No more cheap Feist concerts :(
