I have a policy of coming late to the party. The more a band, book, movie, or TV is hyped, the longer I'll avoid it. I finally got disc one, season one of The Wire and I'm stoked. Any other late adopters here?

Me! But first, the Wire. I've seen the first two seasons, and I'm awaiting the third from the library. You're in for a treat. From what I gather each season focuses on a different aspect of life in Baltimore. The first season is cops and crime. It's basically the best cop show I've ever seen. The second season still involves cops, but it takes in the dockworkers and their union as well. The third season focuses on politics in the form of a mayoral election. The fourth season is the schools. The fifth season is the press.

More broadly, I always get to these things late as well. I'm just starting the sixth season of the Sopranos, for crying out loud. I like it like this, though. All those other poor bastards have nothing else to look forward to, but I've still got fun left in the tank.

The Wire is dope. I have to say, I'm still mad as hell about HBO canceling Dead Wood. More profanity and hookers than you can shake a stick at, a fight scene where a guy gouges out another man's eye, and all that general nastiness. I miss it. Hey HBO... you suck.

Let's not forget that David Milch sacrificed "Deadwood" so that he could produce "John from Cincinnati," an abortion of a show that couldn't survive on a network (HBO) whose fans will give ANYTHING a chance. That dude should never be forgiven for crimes against human culture.
