Ah, I’m the friend in question here. Generally, I would attend a concert before I’d watch a game on television. Many venues have a television behind the bar, so I can often keep track of the score while enjoying the show. That said, there’s a specific conflict coming up and this is what I was initially referring to: Broken Social Scene versus Colt/Patriots.

As it currently stands, the Colts/Pats game is scheduled for 4:15, so it’s not a huge conflict. I know that occasionally big games are pushed back to the primetime slot; I don’t know if this happens any more and I don’t know what the process is. BUT, this game has the potential to be one of the biggest regular season NFL games ever played, so if there was ever a game that warranted a primetime slot, this is it. Assuming this happens, I think the Broken Social Scene crowd will suffer, which is a bummer. Some people would argue that indie rock fans stereotypically aren’t big sports fans, but this doesn’t really seem to be the case with many of my friends. I’d like to see this show, but in this case, if it comes down to it, I’ve gotta watch the game.
