Ready for some ice skating? Already?? The Ellenberger Ice Arena on the Eastside of Indy is scheduled to open October 6th for the 2008-2009 season. The arena offers a variety of activities for every age, including Youth House Hockey leagues and broomball leagues. (Broomball is a sport that follows many of the same rules as ice hockey except that players wear shoes on the ice and try to hit miniature soccer balls into the nets). One can book private rentals that can be set up to include figure skating and broomball. Field trips are offered where groups can learn how the ice is made and how it is kept frozen and perhaps a chance to check off one of the items of your life's to-do list by sitting on the legendary Zamboni. Located at Ellenberger Park, the arena's address is 5301 E. St. Clair Street. Call them at 327-7176, or check www.indyparks.org for news and up to date schedules.
