Kenneth Branagh set to direct "Thor"
The interesting comic book movie news of the day is that Shakespeare-obsessed actor/director Kenneth Branagh is in talks to direct the big-screen version of "Thor."
I know Thor more from cartoon incarnations than from the comics, but this is certainly an unusual choice. Color me skeptical until I see the finished product, but these out-of-left-field choices of "real" directors (i.e. those who are established outside of genre fare like Christopher Nolan or Jon Favreau) have hit gold lately.
Variety is your source.
While we're on it, who would you like to see as the Norse god? Brad Pitt could pull it off, but somehow I think he wouldn't be too interested. The Rock (sorry, Dwayne) could do it too, but I still like another wrestler, Triple H, to play Thor...he definitely has the look, but I'm concerned about his acting chops. He was pretty bland and mediocre in "Blade: Trinity."

I think Branaugh would make an excellent choice. I've seen some of his Shakeperian movies and enjoyed them despite being unable to process all the dialogue.
Yeah, I'd have to agree that Branaugh would be likely to at least take the subject seriously. I think the reason some movies have fared better than others was because the directors really understood what the character was about.
Thor will probably be the most difficult to pull off of all the Marvel characters, due to the fact that he's the least "human" of all the Avengers. At least Hulk had Banner's humanity to make it easier to relate to him.
That being said, I'll see this movie a bazillion times, just like I did Spiderman, Iron Man, etc.
