I'm sure most everyone knows by now (though I just found out this morning, on a sports talk radio show of all things) that Paul Newman passed away from lung cancer at the age of 83.

He had already retired from filmmaking (his last role, appropriately enough, was the voice of Doc Hudson in "Cars"), and of course it's sad that he has passed, but no one seemed to have lived a more full and fulfilling life than Newman.

For my money he's one of the 10 greatest actors who ever lived, with 10 Oscar nominations and a win for 1986's "The Color of Money," Martin Scorsese's sequel to "The Hustler."

Also part of his extensive filmography are films like "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "Exodus," "Cool Hand Luke," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Sting" and "The Verdict."

He was also a very serious race car driver and IRL team owner (Newman Haas Racing is his team), and raced cars pretty seriously and successfully for several years.

Also, everyone knows about his line of food products, salad dressing, spaghetti sauce, and the like, and he donated the proceeds of the sales of his line to charity.

Here is CNN's coverage

Here is Newman's imdb profile

RIP Paul. "Nah-calling it your job don't make it right boss."

'The Long Hot Summer', 'Hombre', 'Hud', 'Slapshot', 'Fort Apache the Bronx', 'Empire Falls'.

Just a small slice of a great film career from a great actor, a great humanitarian, & loyal husand. His prescence will be greatly missed.
