Fave Biographical Movie
I am fascinated by biographical movies of some of the world's most influential artist (i.e. Johnny Cash, Coco Chanel, Ray Charles, etc). I love that they tell us how they were only human themselves and that struggle is not something that fame and fortune can ward off.
What is your favorite biographical movie? And who would you like to see a biography made of and why?

Hmmm. It's kind of a tough question. Straight biopics that essentially list off the events of a person's life rarely interest me, but there are movies that involve real people in a more fanciful way that I enjoy. Quills, for example. It uses the life of the Marquis de Sade to explore the conflict between artistic freedom and what's socially acceptable. Great poetic license is taken. Amadeus is a similar case. Real guy. Some real events. Lots of fiction.
Oh! And American Splendor has to go on the list of favorites. That one probably sticks pretty closely to the truth, and it's wonderful.
As for who I'd like to see a movie made about . . . Karl Marx, to be honest. I'm sure some Soviet film factory churned out something back in the day, but I've never heard or seen anything. He had, to say the least, a very interesting life, and it could be the basis for a very interesting movie.
Ed Wood is my Fav..HANDS DOWN! if you have not seen the film..SEE IT! (they are having a Showing of it at Key Cinemas in October(4th I believe..PLEASE GO SEE IT..YOU'LL LOVE IT! keycinemas.com)
AND I'D LOVE TO SEE A bio-pic of George Lucas..I just think it'd be cool!

Evita and the Aviator were both good and hit most of the high points so you felt like you learned something while you watched.

American Splendor is a great example, as Drinky notes, of the more experimental type of film biography.
In terms of straight biographies, I'd put "Malcolm X" among the top modern examples.
"Evita" and "The Aviator" are definitely on my list too!
There seem to have been a lot of great bio movies. I loved American Splendor. I've seen it a few times and will surely watch it again at some point. Other favorites of mine include Basquiat, Shine, Amadeus, In the Realms of the Unreal and Crumb. I think that those are my favorites because they are about people who were brilliant in some ways, but odd and even crazy in others.
Eventually I'd like to see a great bio movie about George Carlin.
