I just read that Anthony Edwards is returning for the final season of ER:

Along with Noah Wyle. Angela Basset is joing the cast and there are incessant rumors that The Clooney may also return. This got me thinking about great hospital shows I've known.

The first one I remember was St. Elsewhere.

Great theme song. The show seemed pretty edgy for the time. It's hard to believe, but there was a time when I thought Howie Mandel was the funniest human alive.

I've loved House the few times I've seen it, but I've not been a regular viewer. I suppose you could also consider M.A.S.H. a sort of hospital show and it was brilliant. AfterMASH, however, was not.

So, what have I missed? What are your favorite hospital shows?

St. Elsewhere was my all-time favorite TV show. They essentially invented the now-hackneyed "it was all a dream" storytelling device.

Mine was the delightfully cruddy "University Hospital," in syndication in the early 90s.

I watched Chicago Hope and ER way back in the day. In recent years, the only hospital show I watch is House. Hugh Laurie is magnificent. I was especially astounded when I found out that he's British. British actors seem to pull off American accents much better than Americans do British ones.

Hugh Laurie did a couple of shows in Britain with Stephen Fry that are worth checking out. There A Bit Of Fry And Laurie, a comedy sketch show:

And Jeeves and Wooster:
