That Time of the Month

So this evening, Ben, Braden and I rushed from work to the Big Car gallery to do two important things. First and foremost we were there to catch "That Time of the Month," featuring the photography of Michelle Pemberton, Marc Lebryk, Tom Klubens and Greg Perez. Secondly, to setup the Indy.com Digivan.

We arrived at about 5:45 and promptly setup shop. After a short time like most technical workers, we began to congratulate ourselves on the accomplishment of a simple task. We were able to demo the site for some First Friday street walkers including a very nice couple who struck a very resounding cord (Mr.ArtInstructor and Mrs.JavaProgrammer, wink).

The show itself was great, although I must admit I crapped out to eat dinner before the 10:00 performance of Mandy Marie and the Cool Hand Lukes. The photos were awesome. They have a really appealing 50's classic feel with a modern grime. In fact, if I had to describe the feel of the collection with a short description I'd say Rock-a-Billy Roller-Girl, and for good reason.

The show was also the celebration of the launch of the 2007-2008 Naptown Roller Girls Calendar. The project is a notable example of what professionals with passion can do for the image of a team. Just the existence of the Naptown Roller Girls in Indy has been an important and unique addition to indy culture. I know there has always been a scene for the Rock-a-billy crowd, but these badass chicks just popped up, smacked it in the face and became its mascot.

All hail photos of badass chicks!

And yes I am that nerd that works on the site all week and then keeps posting at 12:00 on Friday.

Why do you have to pick on the shiny head?

Thanks to everyone who came out for the show! I walked in at 6:45 p.m. and was amazed to find so many people already there. Then, as the night went on, besides Doug crapping out to go get something to eat (heh), there was a constant flow of Naptown Roller Girls fans coming in and out of the gallery. It was an amazing show ... Michelle Pemberton did a great job setting it all up with the trusty and always professional Big Car peops, and all the photographers (and Ben Roe and Jason Pitman, graphics dudes) did a great job taking our photos for the calendar. Hooray for Indy! I love this city. Plus, I got to put Christopher West on my back. You absolutely can't beat that.

You are a chump for missing this, Matt. But I forgive you. You're one of my favorites, so I have to.
