Have you ever been in a Hurricane?
I've never been in a hurricane but it has to be rough. I've experienced some really bad weather and seas but nothing like a hurricane.Have you?

My neighbor is a student at Tulane and she had to evacuate to Dallas with her roommate...I have been getting updays from her parents, but so far, she seems to be OK. when we lived in North Carolina, my then-husband had to drive down there in the middle of Hurricane Hugo (I think) and that wasn't any fun for him...I will stay in happy little landlocked Indiana thank you!
We were on our way to visit relatives in Mississippi in August 1969 when we encountered Hurricane Camille - a category 5 hurricane. My dad refused to pull over like every one else had who were still foolish enough to even be on the highway. It wasn't long before we were blown off the road. That was a pretty exciting ride spinning off the pavement and coming to rest in the median. Amazingly, a tow truck just happened to be passing by and pulled us out right away. The wind and rain was just crazy. We made it into a town as the eye passed over. Sitting in a restaurant was eerie as the greenish glow and quiet pervaded. Trapped birds circled overhead. Just as the storm hit with winds coming from the opposite direction, we made it to a motel where we rode the rest of it out. We didn't realize the magnitude of what we had gone through until the next several days when all the local TV stations were constantly calling for volunteers and donations.
Years later my brother and I came across that old station wagon in a used car lot. We looked underneath and saw packed dirt and grasses still jammed into crevices from that wild windblown slide.

I've never been in an active hurricane, but we lived on Ft. Bragg, NC, in the 80s when Hurricane Diana was supposed to hit. I remember going through drills at school where we went into the hallways and covered our heads (like we do here for tornado drills). I remember it being pretty scary, but nothing ever came of it.
