Skinny Puppy's 1984 release, Back & Forth, was a very influencial album. Many artists that were to follow, including the very popular Trent Reznor of NIN, cite Skinny Puppy as a major influence.

Well we've got a really great list of electronic bands out there, so I thought we might venture into something a little more grimey.

So here we go: What's the best Industrial Band/Musician Ever?

For this one, I am going to have to go with Skinny Puppy. I like their first Back & Forth Album from '84. I think a close second would have to be Coil or Front 242.

Ministry ... if only for the consistent awesomeness of their various side projects. Ministry straight (especially Land of Rape and Honey and Psalm 69) is certainly fabulous, but when you throw in stuff like Lard (M plus Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedy's), Pailhead (M + Ian MacKaye of Fugazi), Revolting C---s (with damn near everybody industrial in Continental Europe), it's hard to beat the sheer volume of good stuff. And I'm only mentioning a handful of their side projects here.

For just plain game-changing, though, it's hard to beat Skinny Puppy (for helping to define the sound to a large degree) and Nine Inch Nails (for bringing it to the masses).

I'm not much of an Industrial fan myself, but I do enjoy some Skinny Puppy if I'm in the right mood. If you aren't sure which bands you listen to might be considered Industrial, you can always check out Industrial on Wikipedia.

My idea of an Industrial Band is a group of guys that work in a factory and play gigs at the Ramada Inn lounge on Saturday nights. And they are probably named Mucilage. Or Sluicebucket.

Dummied you bring up a good point about this genre, ...

There are tons and tons of one-off type side projects. If you check the credits on a lot of them, you'll notice the names of many of the more known industrial musicians overlap regularly. This is great news for music junkies and bin divers.

EINSTUERZENDE NEUBAUTEN. Das ist sehr Deutsch. Ich glaube EINSTUERZENDE NEUBAUTEN ist nicht eine volksbelustigung.

Oh, I didn't know you meant "american industrial Music" ONLY.

Then I guess, I would go for front 242. ( hope, that s not too deutsch for you, but I garantee you, Front 242 were/are heavily influenced by Kraftwerk or even "EINSTUERZENDE NEUBAUTEN ". Bis dann, und PROST!
