How about Holiday Mart?
So someone gave me a ticket to Holiday Mart this weekend at the State Fairgrounds. Never having gone to this pre-holiday shopping extravaganza, I'm wondering what it's like. Good stuff?
Seems as if this event has undergone a name change this year! What used to masquerade itself as the Holiday Gift and Hobby Show is in all actuality a Bazaar gone wild. It's housed in one of the larger indoor pavilions at the state fairgrounds. And while there are a good number of holiday-related booths (woodwork, handicrafts, wreaths, ornaments, etc) There's also the pre-requisite booths of laser cute name plaques, vintage-inspired metal signage, Bavarian nuts (mmmm....Bavarian Nuts) out-of-season Avon vendors, and jewelry cleaners who are dying to shine and polish your ring ("It'll just take a second!") that you'll always find at any State Fairground-housed event. That being said...I've been the past four years and plan to go again this year. It's become somewhat of an odd little tradition my mom and I have developed, and it sort of helps to kick off the holiday shopping season in my mind. Plan to park and walk, wear a light jacket (it's warm inside) and know in advance it will be packed to the gills with people pulling handcarts just dying to run over your toes. Holiday Mart... here I come.
