Interesting article at nymag.com on the career paths of Philip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly since their pairings in the PT Anderson films Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, and Magnolia.
It's an interesting, brief read, and is a nice discussion of their careers, which seemed to be moving parallel, but wildly diverged in recent years.
I have to say, John C. Reilly's choices have disappointed me a bit in the past few. That said, I see nothing wrong with him enjoying the comedic life. I just hope he doesn't get stuck there. Even though he's had stellar performances in a handful of movies, I don't find his resume as impressive as Phillip Seymour Hoffman's, who has done comedy as well.
Perhaps John C. Reilly will be in a good in Cirque du Freak.

Agreed. He's hitched his wagon to the Ferrell/Apatow gravy train, and that's great, but the movies he's done with them have been circumspect at best. Talladega Nights was a middle-of-the-road Ferrell comedy, and Walk Hard and Step Brothers were both atrocious, IMO.
He's an outstanding actor, and he's talented comedically as well (remember that his roles in Magnolia and Boogie Nights were skewed toward the farcical), but he needs to be reined in a little bit and I'd like to see him in a few more serious roles as well.
John Reilly is in the movie called Hard Eight I think it was PT Anderson's first movie, but maybe not. It's good though. He proves his chops in that film.

Absolutely. Hard Eight is good, and there's another one that he was in called "Criminal" that was more or less serious that I enjoyed.
He's an outstanding actor.
