The Top 10 Live is a collaborative effort between Indy.com and Indianapolismusic.net

1. Feast of Lanterns featuring Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band

Noon Aug. 23, free, Spades Park, 1800 Nowland Ave., indyfeast.com

It's been a busy year for Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band. Along with a touring sched- ule that's kept the band on the road 200 days a year, the group also signed a recording con tract and released "The Whole Fam Damnly" to a nationwide audience. The record debuted at No. 4 on Billboard's Blues Album chart. The roots blues trio performs at 8 p.m.

2. Alice Cooper with Cinder Road

7:30 p.m. Aug. 22, $30-$50, WhiteLies.tv Lawn at White River State Park, 801 W. Washington St., www.in.gov/whiteriver/lawn

Though Alice Cooper doesn't deliver the same level of shock he did early in his career, he still records and tours for new and old fans alike. Cooper's 25th studio album, "Along Came a Spider," hit stores in July. Early reviews of this tour report that Cooper's macabre stage props and theatrics are still a huge part of the show.

3. Sleepy LaBeef with Mandy Marie & The Cool Hand Lukes

9 p.m. Aug. 22, $10, Radio Radio, 1119 E. Prospect. St. (317) 955-0995.

Calling Sleepy LaBeef's rockabilly and roots rock sound "throwback" would do a disservice to the artist's legacy. He was there when rock 'n' roll was invented. He began recording in the '50s and has delivered rockabilly classics and hit country singles during his 50-plus-year career. He's joined by Indy's own rockabilly legends-in-the-making, Mandy Marie & the Cool Hand Lukes, for a night of raucous rock 'n' roll.

4. The Franchize CD release show

9 p.m. Aug. 21, $5, The Vogue, 6259 N College Ave. (317) 259-7029.

The Franchize, touring behind new album "6 vs. 6 Billion," blends hip-hop and rock in a way that brings out the best of both styles. Following this event, the group hits the road for a series of shows in Southern California, culminating with a performance at the Playboy Mansion.

5. Fringe Festival outdoor stage opening

6 p.m. Aug. 22, free, Indianapolis Historic Fire Museum & Memorial, 748 Massachusetts Ave., www.indyfringe.org

IndyFringe 2008 fills theater spaces with cutting-edge performances starting Aug. 22. In addition to those shows, there's an outdoor stage featuring unique acts. Music rules the stage on opening night, as Vermillion Lies, Playboy Psychonauts, Tonos Triad and Chambray Blue Jumpsuit kick off the 10-day event.

6. Audio Reconnaissance showcase

10 p.m. Aug. 22, $6, Melody Inn, 3826 N. Illinois St. (317) 923-4707.

Local record label Audio Reconnaissance's focus on digital distribution and prolific output encourages creativity from its roster. The label showcases several Audio Recon artists at this event, including Id Obelus, Justice League, Twin Monster, Merc Versus, 2 Mics and a Kit, Motif and Whois Louis.

7. Seven Mary Three w/ 650 North & Healing Sixes

9 p.m. Aug. 22, $22, Music Mill, 3720 E. 82nd St. (317) 841-1850.

We promise: There will be no math quiz given at this show, despite the number-laden names of the three bands sharing the bill. Seven Mary Three won national attention with alt-rock singles "Cumbersome" and "Water's Edge." 650 North comes from the small town of Osgood, Ind., but has performed as far away as Poland, where it opened for Guns N' Roses. Indy rockers Healing Sixes rounds out the bill.

8. Music Builds Tour

6 p.m. Aug. 22, $23.50-$118.50, Verizon Wireless Music Center, 12800 E. 146th St., Noblesville (317) 776-8181.

A quartet of Christian-influenced acts -- Switchfoot, Third Day, Robert Randolph & the Family Band and Jars of Clay -- are using this tour to benefit Habitat For Humanity chapters in 23 cities. The concert also features a second stage of musical acts.

9. Black Diamond Heavies with Shelby Kelly, The Wisebloods, Scotty Lust and the Two Timers

9 p.m. Aug. 22, Sam's Saloon, 1640 E. Prospect St.

Southern states have long been a breeding ground for soulful and wild music that's equally inspired by gospel spirituality and the whispers of the devil. Nashville-based Black Diamond Heavies are inheritors of that sound. The drum and organ duo leaps with ease from soulful blues to mad punk rock.

10. We Are Hex, Thin Fevers, Small Arms Fire

10:30 p.m. Aug. 23, $5, Melody Inn, 3826 N Illinois St. (317) 923-4707

This week's edition of Punk Rock Night at the Melody Inn features three area acts. We Are Hex delivers noisy art rock. Thin Fevers brings a New Wave-influenced, aggressive dance punk sound. Small Arms Fire creates nervy songs fit for pogo dancing.
