Yo Yo Yo. I just got hired here at INDY.COM and I wanted to make an open call to users and find out what is GREAT about us and what STINKS. Basically, what are we doing right and what can we improve upon?
This goes for the Magazine and the Website. Thoughts?
People racking up Karma with s--- people don't care about. An example would be uploading a bunch of pictures on the last day of the month....
Also, put me in the magazine sometime...
yeah, that picture loophole is definately the worst.

Got to agree. Talk and try your best to do it intelligently in order to get Karma.

It sounds like this is a big issue with the regulars.
Yeah ask rictor his opinions on it....
what f'ing pic loophole are you guys talking about?
simple; when awarding the monthly prize simply look at the contributions users have made to the site (ie-interesting posts, discussions, pictures by value not number).
dont award those that have already been awarded and keep them as regular users.
retroactively award prizes to those that earned top karma but get shafted.
this site is getting all emo about itself and its pretty disgusting.
More whiskey.

I agree with all the Karma stuff. How is the site getting all emo about itself? haha.
I'd love to be able to hover over the post topic on the main page and see the original post in a little hover window. This would keep me from opening stupid threads...and most message boards do this.

That's a great idea.
i would much rather have someone upload a ton of pictures than post worthless topic after worthless topic. this site has become so filled with nonsense that a rarely frequent it, especially to communicate with the handful of worthless topic posters who troll here. I think the whole Karma thing is ruining the site. It's cool to give a way prizes, but it's at the expense of this site IMO. I was sort of excited to see this site launch and thought it had great potential to bring people together and especially for local artists (which i am one of), but now, I pretty much despise this site. I was posting my work early on with no intentions of posting to rack up points (i could careless about winning prizes on here) and i couldnt believe the s--- storm of people who slammed me for my multiple postings of work and posts about upcoming art events.

who gives a crap about art on indy.com?

I do ... there's some fantastic stuff in here:

Yup. We are talking about some changes to the Karma thing that would really reward those that bring real value to the site -- things that are not posting/volume related. INDY.COM is meant for so much more than a give-away. Personally, I'm a musician and a fan of the arts. Please keep posting your stuff, that's exactly the kind of thing that adds value to the site. Also, please keep hitting DELETE on any pointless comments that respond to your postings (Maybe at some point we might create an "approval" system like MySpace?). And if the posts are beyond rude, please REPORT ABUSE. You are in control! Indy is a big place... there is enough e-room for all of us.
how about a more attractive design? sleek and clean, maybe a homepage i can customize, think igoogle. I would also like to recommend full profile controls like, cancel your account, pages for the persons videos, possibly send a spam to your friends only, maybe even approve or not approve fan requests? I would love to see more video..esp on the front page. I have been watching this site for awhile, but now that you are in the drivers seat, i have no doubt things are going to improve. I would love for this to morph into more of a web 2.0ish full blown social platform. how about some facebook / myspace cross apps? what about downloadable AIR apps of up to the minute indy.com posts / news that would drive me directly back to indy.com. last but not least, great feature sets when i am posting....SPELLCHECK please. and no copy paste into another app will not do it for me. I will leave this be with my greatest Indy.com pet peave, if i click on a persons reviews / comments and i hit the back button it defaults to the previous page at the recent posts page. Annoying. I do love the karma aspect but agree that it should be modified to reward great content providers. this isn't a bash post, i just see very simple solutions to make the site much more interesting and useable.

Funnily enough, we're getting ready to start working on the next version of Indy.com right now ... and the customizable homepage thing is it at the top of the features list.
The next version's going to be a top-to-bottom rewrite of everything and we're also going to be discussing a lot of other features (broadening the scope beyond entertainment, for instance).
Oh, a total redesign to something sleeker.
You'll see a few of the other building-block features for Indy v2 when we roll out a pretty big update toward the end of next week.
As for spellcheck: A lot of browsers have this built in (Safari and Firefox being the most prominent) and there are even plugins floating around to get IE to do it. If we find a really super-easy way to add it, we will, but I personally feel it's something better suited to the operating system than a website.
I would recommend larger chances for people to get comments into print in the magazine. Nothing strokes my ego more than looking at myself in the paper :D ha ha

I completely agree.
I completely agree.
That there should be more people in the paper or just more me? ha ha jk
