The Defuser Update
Jarrett Crippen, AKA THE DEFUSER, winner the second season of Who Wants to be a Superhero, took a few minutes to talk to Indy.com and catch us up on how his newfound celebrity has impacted his life in the past year.
A police detective in Austin, TX in real life, Crippen has received tremendous support from his department to promote his Defuser persona into the community. "I get invited to go to talk to elementary schools, the Boys and Girls Scouts, etc. I've taken a 30-minute presentation I've given for years, called 'Being a Hero in your Community.', and redeveloped it as the Defuser. My department has embraced it as a great way to get out a positive message."
Annually for several years, Crippen and his wife have run Scare for a Cure, a haunted house that raises money for cancer support and research-related organizations. ( www.scareforacure.org ) "It's a full-contact, physically challenging experience. It now takes almost 45 minutes to get through. Last year, whenever I agreed to a local TV appearance (the finale aired in early September), I'd say only if I could mention Scare For a Cure, so we got a lot of publicity--thanks to the show, thanks to Stan Lee."
