With Mama Mia! making a splash on the big screen, in theaters and introducing a new generation to Abba's music, it begs the question, what is the best song from a current or past production? I am not sure Abba's tunes should count because they weren't written for a musical, but what do I know? Whether you love the classics like "76 Trombones" or something a little more current like "Defying Gravity" which songs make you want to stand up and sing? My personal favorites include "Buenos Aires" from Evita, "Rose's Turn" from Gypsy, "The Wizard and I" from Wicked, "Trouble" from The Music Man (A show I was in twice)...the list goes on and on. Jersey Boys had some amazing music in it as well. So what do you all think?
All I Ask of You - Phantom of the Opera
Gotta be one of the best love songs ever written.
That is a GREAT song...but it got overplayed at weddings right after it came out. Kind of like that Shania Twain song "From this Moment". I have to wonder if the composers of some of these songs say "Here's a tune that will never die" or if they have no clue when they are writing it.
The Chimney Sweep song(can't remember the actual name) - from Mary Poppins
Tonight - West Side Story
Come What May - Moulin Rouge
Chim Chim-eree...I like that one too, but I am biased...anything with Julie Andrews is a good idea LOL
