British comedy. Like dog v. cat people, you either love it or hate it. (actually for those of you that hate it, you more than likely checked your sense of humor with Gallagher's last show...) but I digress.
Anyhoo,
Beer in hand, kids and wife asleep, and insomnia so bad that the Lunesta butterfly is wishing it could be a caterpillar again, I decide to see what shows the hi-def gods have to offer me. Well, apparently my T.V. karma is still in check as no sooner than I turn on the telly, I catch the opening credits of the 1983 Monty Python classic "The Meaning of Life"
The info menu on Dish Network summarizes the movie as "The British troupes explantion of the meaning of life includes gluttony, birth control, and total insignificance."
Maybe it was the beers, maybe it was the 2-4 hours of nightly sleep I average, but it really hit me that even in 1983 they hit the nail right on the head with that synopsis and their sketches.
The meaning of life really may be, obtaining and hording as much as possible, trying not to spawn too many kids, and regardless of your successes and failures, you are still nothing more than a speck of cosmic poo in the grand universal scheme of things.
So with that being said, I leave you with a chunk of lyrics from the movies opening song:
"Is life just a game where we make up the rules While we're searching for something to say, Or are we just simply spiralling coils Of self-replicating DN-- nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay..."
Well I've wasted enough of your time pondering the meaning of the universe, so I guess this concludes tonights episode of "Dave's Insomnia Theatre", not to mention "Bottle Rocket" is getting ready to come on...
Soooooo...
GOOD NIGHT INDIANAPOLIS!!!
i think we need a weekly installment of "Dave's Insomnia Theatre" anyone else have any late-night faves? Maybe something along the lines of "Zombies on Broadway"?
You mean like the 1945 classic "Zombies on Broadway" with Bela Lugosi?
Best dialogue of the whole flick:
Jerry Miles: You see, we're doing some research work on zombies, and he said you could help us.
Dr. Paul Renault: The fool! I know nothing about zombies. I came here to study a strange coconut blight.
Mike Streger: Coconut blight? He said it was a banana blight.
Dr. Paul Renault: Oh, Joseph is color blind.
Told you I never sleep....
s.h.
The best british comedy has to be "The Office" but you better record it so you can rewind to figure out what they said. The accents are thick! The content is more than PG-13 at times - guaranteed to make you giggle!

Absolutely agree. I would be nothing without the BBC Channel at home! Even some of their crime dramas blow ours out of the water too. Balleykissangel is another great show if you get around to it!
British comedies tend to be hit-or-miss with me. Either I find them pretty hilarious or they annoy the heck outta me.
One BBC show that I really enjoy watching is the comedy panel quiz show QI (Quite Interesting). Educational and really funny.
Kinda off subject, but I also really really love BBC documentaries.
I used to watch "Are You Being Served" religiously when it came on late nights on PBS. I wish it didn't cost so much to buy the complete series on DVD.
