Has anybody else seen "The Wiz" yet? I saw American Cabaret Theatre's production Friday, which was opening night. This "Wizard of Oz" takeoff was revolutionary, with its all-black cast led by Diana Ross on Broadway in the 1970s. And now, ACT's production is a local trend setter, because artistic director Bob Harbin uses a multi-racial cast of youth. Most performers are in their teens or early 20s. The talent is great, and not just the leads. There are lots of unexpected surprises from secondary characters and the chorus. Stay tuned for a fuller review later this weekend on indy.com and in Sunday's Indianapolis Star.
