Indy denizens seem to have a love-hate relationship with their town. Do you plan on sticking around for the long haul?

If you plan on sticking around, leave a comment letting us know what you love about Indy. If you have plans to move elsewhere, what is it that you don’t like about Indy or would like to see as an improvement?
I love this place! I think anyone who says Indy sucks because there’s ‘nothing to do’, will not be happy anywhere, in my opinion. I’ve lived in more than a few larger cities, and there were things to complain about there, too, such as traffic, congestion and cost of living. Indy offers something for everyone. What I love most of all is the sense of community I found lacking in more cosmopolitan areas.

I’m not technically living in Indy yet, so sorry about that peg way out in Lafayette…but I plan on sticking around when we finally move here!

No worries.
There’s a vote from Denver on there.
We live downtown Indy and LOVE IT! We can walk to Grocery store, dry cleaner, hardware store, Dentist, Doctor, shopping, sports events (I ride my bike to Colts games), Circle Center Mall, Restaurants, Theaters, really everything you want…and the Cultural Trail is a big plus. We walk to work and I think the last time I put Gasoline in my Car was around Christmas. My only beef was the real estate tax situation, which has caused a great deal of hardship for alot of people. However, it appears the issue is fixed with the eventual 1% cap (assuming the legislature doesn’t screw this up). Otherwise, we believe Indy is a first class city. Downtown prices for real estate are very low right now and affordable rentals in nice areas and great buildings are plentiful. You can probably pick up a good rental from one of the townhouse or condo developers who are sitting on vacant units. Really can’t think of a reason to move or a reason not to like the Central Indiana area.

I moved to Noblesville last year, but I love Indy and still consider myself an Indy resident more or less (seriously, Noblesville is a suburb really). I was an Army brat, and lived in a bunch of different places (among them Maryland, Kentucky, North Carolina, Germany, Hawaii and Colorado) and whenever people ask me which place I liked the best, I always said Indiana, specifically Indianapolis. It’s just always been home, it’s got everything I need, and there is plenty to do. Criticisms of the city don’t bother me, as long as they’re constructive and are looking to improve the city.

I am a former Indpls. resident now living in Atlanta. While I did leave, I look back very affectionately on Indy. It’s a city I appreciate more since I’ve left. Kind of the way people view former presidents I guess. I come back whenever I have a chance to visit…
Having just recently moved back to Indy after years abroad. I have to say next to Orlando,FL this is the worst place I have ever lived. The lack of decent music venues, non-existent public transportation, very limited decent paying jobs to go along with the huge redneck population makes this a temporary stop for me. I also find it incredibly frightening that a huge percentage of the people here don’t own a passport or have a clue as to what one is.

You are an ignoramus!
I was born in Indy and I will die in Indy. We have great entertainment & shopping venues, all types of music sites that bring in lots of different singers/musicians, wonderful theatre venues (professional, semi-professional & community), all sports represented with great venues (although I do miss Market Square Arena), all types of museums, beautiful architectural sites and all of this is found downtown! Plus, it is super easy to get around all sides of town! Indy is #1!
There are many things that I love about living in Indy. I love the old houses and neighboorhoods with mature trees. I feel their are tons of things to do and I enjoy living hear. My main problem is that it is not a good place to raise a kid in. The school system is very bad and I would not feel safe sending one of my children there. I would send my children to privet school but because of the costs I do not feel that is an option right now. Because of that fact my family will probably move north to one of the suburbs once are children get to the age for school. I will be sad once we go.

I moved to Atlanta in 1995 and I seriously regret it. It was a big mistake. I miss Indy alot and I can’t wait to get back. I will be a Indy resident again in May 2009. Being in Atlanta has been the absolute WORST. It’s so backwards here. When I moved here I thought I was going to need a translator. I’m thinking did everyone skip English here, it was really sad. I hate I missed all the changes that I have seen on visits to Indy. I missed the grand opening of Circle Center Mall and so many other things. I will never live in another southern state again, or any other state, I miss Indy and can’t wait to get back. Atlanta is for the birds.
