"Let's get ready to rumble." This is the phrase heard over the loud speaker before basketball games every Saturday in the Gym at Emmanuel Community Church’s' Upward Basketball program for children ages 4 and up. The lights are dimmed and the participants run out onto the floor to revolving spotlights and loud music; the type of music heard at professional basketball games. The teams get excited about the competition, and with the younger children, no score is ever kept. The Upward program, under the direction of Duane Schnelle and Kellie Robinson, has more than 550 children involved. The team coaches, referees and cheerleader coaches are parents, which make it a great family event every Saturday, from January to March. With only five players showing up for the game, the Lady Comets still won. Every time we go to rent a paddle boat they are sold out for the day or there is a long wait. So plan in advance!
Stop by Wheel Fun Rental on the Canal and rent ya one of these puppies. Make sure everyone pedals. You don't want to be the one doing all the work!
Isn't that a sweet face? They are such sweet animals. It's crazy to think they have the same about of vertebrae in their necks as we do. You can feed the giraffes at the zoo during the warmer months for $1.00 at certain times of the day. I love doing it!
You can find these guys in abundance at Eagle Creek Park in the summer. Just go to the old nature center (close to the 71st street entrance) and just have a seat on the bench. They'll fly all around you just a fussing and a fighting for those sugar water feeders. Hummingbirds are very noisy too. My husband and I go over there at least once a week to watch them, they are hysterical.
Right when you walk through the entrance of the zoo you will see these guys. They are so much fun to watch. You can watch them outside or go inside and watch them swim underwater.
This is when we had cubs running around. I was madly in love with this fella. He had just turned six months old and turned loose in the main exhibit. I was so excited when he looked right at me. What a cutie!
Do you see the bug? This flower can be found outside the Lilly House by their greenhouse. If you love flowers, this is the place to go in the spring and summer. It's amazing!
The butterflies will be back soon at the zoo. They can be found inside at the White River Gardens.
