Today:
During most of my newsbiz career in the Midwest, the South and Washington, D.C., I've written about performing arts. I currently cover theatre, classical music and dance for The Indianapolis Star. Before landing back in Indiana, I spent 18 years in Memphis. Rumors that I'm an Elvis impersonator are completely untrue, but "Nixon in China" is a favorite opera. At IU-Bloomington, I studied journalism and music. I was a 2007 National Endowment for the Arts fellow in Theatre at USC.

Whitney!!! Welcome to the Internets.
Hi, Whitney! I enjoy your reviews of the ISO. Was David Neumeyer on staff when you studied music at IU-Bloomington? He's my new father-in-law. Cheers, Mr. Smith!
Cheers to you! If you mean David Neumeyer, the author of a book on Hindemith, our paths didn't cross, unfortunately.
Whitney, are there plans to add your reviews to show listings in the theater section?

Yep, that's who I mean! Well, his son Dan is on the Star staff. That's my hubby. He's an artist of a different kind =) So do you like the idea of the ISO's Happy Hour? What kinds of things would you suggest to attract young professionals to the Symphony? Besides booze and skirts...
Whitney - man, thanks for your great comments on our authentic "hole in the wall". I've been waiting for someone to GET IT the way you get it. Our first few months, we took some hits for being too much of a dive, not enough of a real restaurant. So, sure, we spiffied it up a little, but I hope we never lose the authentic "hole in the wall" feeling. Please come in and introduce yourself, either to myself (Art) in the evenings, or to my wife (Colleen) at the lunch hour. We'll be thrilled to call you friend. Oh and be sure to sign the graffiti wall! Thanks again - Papa.
So there you are, Mr. Smith.
I'm still reeeeee-ading. :-) I hope you're doing well.
Whitney,
Thank you so much for commenting about Memphis. Sharon Gamble told me to contact you actually...she told me you'd lived there for years. We just bought a house on the edge of East Memphis and Germantown (so we are technically still hip I think;)
It'll be an adjustment, but I'm really excited.
best, chelsea
