Today:
I'm a freelance photographer. I shoot weddings for business and fashion for fun.
I was born in Moscow, Russia, raised in Melbourne, Australia, went to college and got married in Chicago and we moved to Indy in 1999. Love it here!
Welcome aboard Polina ! Hope you enjoy the site. Liked your pictures of weddings on your blog site. Good work ! Taco
what is up? welcome 2 indy.com!
Awesome! I am somewhat of a very very ameteur photographer! I have also just discovered the pleasure that is photoshop!
lol! u don't like the crack? some photos should show the dirty, gritty realism of life!
You've got some awesome shots!
no sweat!
Thanks! Having kids is great...but man is it a lot of work!
We did pictures yesterday with a couple of my cousins and their kids. Four kids under 3...not easy to keep organized.
Thanks for reading my reviews also!
eyem a beginner photographer who hasn't taken pictures in a long time and who has forgotten how to develope. Can you recommend a basic manual camera and whatever you think it is good for a beginner to have? I love to take pictures but not with the new stuff. Eyem old fashioned when it comes to art. eye know 30 is a bit old to be 'starting'..but better late than never. My life just hasn't been the same since eye lost my passion for pictures...so eyem getting it back!
Hey...it was nice be added to you fan base today =) Keep me/us all posted on any new pics you put up. I enjoy your work ! Ray
Cool gallery,thanks.
my pleasure. glad to have ya!
kewl thanx! so with digital does it go straight from camera to computer? Sounds too easy if eyem understanding it right. If so, does that mean you don't have any negatives and that there's no hours spent in the darkroom?
u r most welcome 4 the add. yeah, the crack may be a little too gritty n real, but it sure is funny! drunk girls in bars rock!
okay, i think i will take a step into 2007 and get a digital camera and do it all computer wise but only because eye dont have a dark room or access to one
thanks for the fan/add! all the best,Garin
Oh, good, another anti-slob! Thank you for reading it, Polina. We will kvetch more on the sweatpants.
That first shot of the Aaron Pelsue Band in your gallery is stellar. Nice work in there.
You definitly should. It's an amazing sport. The next bout is Dec. 29th at the State Fairgrounds. Careful though, derby will get into your blood.
Roller Derby is Awesome!
I was just compelled to say that.
Don't mind me...
Sometimes stuff like that tends to over complicate it. Took me a little while to get used to it myself. Let's see if I can simplify it...
A bout is made up of 3 periods and each period consists of several 2 minute "jams" which is a group of 4 girls know as "the pack" from each team starts of skating around the track followed a few seconds later by one girls from each team known at "the jammer". The jammers try to cut their way through the pack "legally". The first jammer to do so becomes "lead jammer". Both jammers score a point for each girl on the opposite team they pass as they pass back through the pack again. The girl that earns "lead jammer" status is the only "jammer" that can call off "the jam" preventing the other "jammer" from scoring more points.
Make anymore sense to ya?
Naptown has it on their myspace page as well (complete with a diagram)

LOL unfortunately I think roller derby is predominantly a female sport. Tom there actually does know the rules and he shoots the matches....I shoot the matches but don't have a clue as to what is going on... It's awesome though. Believe you me.
You made me blush, I've always wanted to be a Jedi :-)
Lovely photos in Indy.com this week!
You are so sweet! I would love to.
I'm not sure what the percentage is but it does draw a pretty large crowd, in fact it was ranked the second best sports entertainment in Indy!
Hey, not sure if anyone's told you yet but you gotta check out your photos on page 15 of this week's issue of Indy.com The Magazine. They look VERY good. Nice work.
Hey I saw your stuff in this week's INtake. Nice! :)
My usual first time comment to those with a particular interest is : I asked myself "Why don't I attempt to create a dialog with all of the other people who have "art" as one of their tags?" Though not knowing where the move might take me, I felt that the tag alone was reason enough to become a fan of yours.
Welcome to indy.com
Every time there is frost in the windows or snow on the ground here I'm reminded of the lyrics of a Key West singer/song writer (Michael McCloud)... "I need someplace that doesn't have winter". From the song Peace and Quiet.
I love your work! The pieces of the Aaron Pelsue Band are great and I especially love your black and whites! Looking forward to seeing more of your art>
Thank you Polina. I'm not entirely sure what the motivation was in creating icons, I guess by seeing them in church, enjoying the feeling that some of them generated in me, I reasoned that I could not choose any subject that has impacted my life more than Christ so I began to interpret the icons that I loved the most. It has been some of my most fulfilling work.
Polina,WOW! I just got through looking at the galleries on your website. Your work is stunning. The couples/relationship pieces are amazing and I loved the work with the children. You really create and capture something unique!
Hey hows it going?
Wow that was quick! I'm everywhere! Yet I'm still here... physically anyway, been gone mentally for awhile!
I haven't done one of the meetup groups, I did go to a photoventure.org meeting few months back at the Indy Art Center with a couple other photographers. Then of course Dean Scotts shootouts I was telling you about. You going to the Jan 9th Meet-up meeting?
I might be free that night, if nothing else could get some good photos downtown...
The comments are completely sincere. The new church is one of our sister churches, we attend St. Stephens Bulgarian Orthodox church on 16th street by the racetrack. Its really a great little place. We have parishoners from Bulgaria, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Brasil, Macedonia and of course the U.S.. So I must confess that one of my favorite reasons for attending, is for the after-service fellowship in the church basement. Lots of great European foods and stimulating conversation. You know I never thought to go by my name, (Michael) on my page, but since you mentioned it, its probably a good idea. Also, thank you for all the great feedback. I really appreciate it.
Happy New Year to all of you "art interest" people I'm a fan of. Perhaps our paths will cross at an art event in 2008. Perhaps in '08 there will be a loosely organized gathering of the indy.com arts community at an event or gallery walk. If so, or not, have a good one either way. Cheers!
Happy new year!
Polina; I saw your page in Indy.com, it really looks great! Congradulations! Michael
Hi Polina, I noticed your are a photographer and from Russia! I am from Kiev and a visual artist myself (practice graphic design at the Indianapolis Art Center). Good to meet you, hope to continue dialogue.
sushi... definitely Sakura. consistently fabulous. yours?
I saw your work in Pulse magazine. Nice!
Polina, do you speak Russian? i heard there are over 20,000 russian speakers in the indy area, sounds crazy. i know, maybe, 5 of them.
you know, it is pretty interesting. last time i went shopping at meijer on 116 st (i was up north for an appointment) I passed at least 3 people speaking Russian. Luckily, I am over that awkward urge to stop and start talking to them in Russian (when i went to NYC for the first time, some 10 years ago, Brooklyn nonetheless, I found myself in the grocery store and with much excitement, i ran up to a family speaking Russian, hoping for that long-needed "здравствуйте! как вы поживаете?", and all i got was a dirty look. understandable, but sad.) Anyhow, perhaps North Side, Carmel-ish? But I do meet a lot of Russian-speakers at our church (Joy of All Who Sorrow Bulgarian Orthodox church on 16th st & Delaware), especially at Christmas and Pascha.
yea your Nikki Blaine shots were in there. They looked nice on the Glossy Mag paper :)
Thanks for being a fan.
Right on for the Point of View submissions. They look great. Have a good one. If you have any questions you're welcome to ask me.
Apparently I have to look inside the INTake, because I want to see your pics too!
Thanks for the comment, I actually do model. I'll be in the show Friday night at the Hilton. I guess I'll see you there? I saw your comment on Nicole's page.
Have a great day!
Thanks! I am excited for Friday and I can't wait to see everyone's hard work.
So...what did you think of the show?
Thank you! It is hard to believe it is all over. I hope the opportunity to work together does indeed present itself!
Poetry in pics! Artful eye, very moving.
I haven't forgotten about you either! Congrats on your Indy.com Cover. I work at the Stutz building now so, I think it would be easy for us to get together for lunch.
No problem, it was great to meat ya. I'm sure our paths will cross again.
