Today:
I am a city mouse, who enjoys playing country mouse twice a month with my meditation group, since I am fond of nature and woodland creatures but also love things like coffeeshops, skyscrapers, sidewalks, gridlock, smog and deforestation.
I'm a graphic designer, photographer and poet living on the near-northside with my cat Beta. Other than my office job, I'm also involved with Big Car Gallery in Fountain Square. Sometimes I get to make pretty fliers for them.
I'm not at all a morning person but I have a day job so I'm forced into pretending to be one. But I've always preferred staying up late to getting up early.
I have an extremely sarcastic sense of humor but can also be very silly when the mood strikes me. And I'm usually nice to people -- unless they cross me.
If I hear a good song anywhere, on the radio, in a mall or club/bar, I will sing (softly) and wiggle my booty. It's involuntary.
Although I'm a cat owner, I also love dogs, fish, birds, turtles, lizards and cool bugs like praying mantises, tarantulas, dragonflies and fireflies. And some people.
I have friends and like to hang out with them. I also have family but hang out with them less often.
I have mixed feelings. I am generally a fan of public art. For instance I like the idea of the Fountain Square Mural Project a ...

you don't look mousey.
and yes, the song from "Fame" was my school's...uh...theme song.
What's up homie! ;) Thanks for being so active on the site. An awesome list of interests you have there. Graphic designers have great taste.
I keep up with it a bit but I got burned out on working professionally.
HAHA. Why thank you! I usually hang out at Big Carr on First Fridays!
Lisa: love your posts (keep it clean), and I'm trying to get around to responding to all of them. Will be in touch soon.
I don't know about this weekend. It's already somewhat full, and I need to work on my thesis proposal. My profs would like for me to have a draft before Thanksgiving, and I'm trying not to panic. But soon.
Why thanks for your comment! Yes I've heard a bit good about you. Perhaps we shall meet...
We turkeys thank you for your support! We are currently working with some snowman friends for a winter series.

Oh you are my favorite Indy.com profile right now.
Yes. Soon. Can't this weekend, though, because I'm revising my thesis proposal, which must be approved asap. Email me.
Miss you, too. hugs <3
Hi Lisa, great profile! Hope to meet you out there somewhere in this fair city of ours! Thanks for the comments! And I LOVE that you love Eddie Izzard =)
Wheee! Actually, I love nearly all of your listed interests! I'll be your local friendly stalker fan. =)
Dean Martin's "It's a Marshmellow World".... Thoughts?
Favorite Tallulah Bankhead quote?
Everything she said was naughty! "I'm pure as the driven slush", "It's the good girls who keep diaries; bad girls don't have the time" and my very favorite - upon running into an ex-lover after some years, "I thought I told you to wait in the car." LOVE her.
Any friend of Jenny's is a friend of mine! Thanks for saying HALLO! hopefully we will find ourselves in concentric circles at some point in the future... :)
THE alchemissy! nicole.
Thanks for going through my gallery page. I found yours very interesting. Oddly enough, it felt very familiar and welcoming. Thank you for that!
By the way, if there is ever a vote for the absolute best Activities and Interests section of an indy.com page, you have mine hands down.
Hey: if I don't talk to you before NY Eve, remember what Henry James said: "I have an inalienable mistrust of the great ones of the earth and a thorough disbelief in any security with people who have no imagination." Keep scrawling as much prose as possible, Lis.
Hey ladie! How have you been? I really am going to make it down to Big Car one day....Really. My life is actually slowing down a bit so maybe I can find the time to socialize face to face with other humans. I am still writing for Intake (as you know), but I have finally finished the draft of my first collection of poetry. I'm excited... I see you are writing poetry too. Do you only share at Big Car or do you go the Indy Writers group meetings too? I haven't been in a while.
Anyway... just sayin what's up. Keep in touch...

Hi Lisa, Thanks for being my "fan", may be now we can be friends in "real" life now, even though my karma points are so so so low.
Merryhappyhannukah/kwanza/feliznavidad !!!!
paz y amor. :)
Happy New Year to all of you "art interest" people I'm a fan of. Perhaps our paths will cross at an art event in 2008. Perhaps in '08 there will be a loosely organized gathering of the indy.com arts community at an event or gallery walk. If so, or not, have a good one either way. Cheers!
I don't know that I have any karma points. Hmmm.
Yeah, but I'm also not allowed to be in the most popular section. Maybe I don't get karma points, either. Truly, this is a mystery.
Speaking of, I totally want to be snuggled up in bed reading some Ruth Rendell or something right now. Booooo cold!
hi Lisa! Thanks for the compliment! You indeed know me from the Tat mag! Happy New Year!
Thanks, your kitties are very cute as well.
Thank you! Yes, I remember meeting you too. I will probably be sending my designs down the runway for Midwest Fashion Week, so be on the look out. Have a wonderful weekend! -Nicole
Synthetic sound equipment, $, and media: Newspapers with alcohol/tobacco ads$ The reason I am posting this is due to the fact that there are people reviewing music who do not have a clue about the performers or artists or otherwise the political views or ideas, in turn basically sterilizing creativity and idealism.
All of my vocals are from my own voice. All of my instruments are homemade from scrap metal and discarded appliances; they are manually driven by my own hands or by the process of perpetual motion movements from my own body: hands, feet, etc.
As far as the background sounds you hear at my shows or in my recordings, they are from broken radios that half work, and old radios and even shortwave radios. Those in turn are disrupted by whatever electronic piece of junk I can tear apart and interrupt frequencies with, and, yes, I still manually record with cassette tapes.
First of all, I cannot afford mix boards, laptops or other expensive devices to bend modify or otherwise change the sound or noise that I make while reciting my poetry.
Seamstress Scavengers is in fact a one-man show which embodies the modern primitive and industrial culture side of life, music, and performing arts.
There has been a great deal of interest expressed by the big market in perfoming artists in the local music and /or art scene. "We're hip like them," the marketers say. I am, of course, referring to what are considered the cool newspapers for Indianapolis, expressively named Nuvo or Intake (now banally Indy.com), which is also sponsored by the Indy Star.
What is being overlooked is that when a media source is running big name tobacco /alcohol ads they are selling you as well in their media source, soaking images of artists and musicians for max profit .
There goes our cultural funding. Many of us are working and perfoming our asses off creatively to fight against big corporations with known funding for war and/or supporting the colonization of other indigenious tribes and cultures.
I am not straight edge. You can have a drink and a smoke. All I am saying is I do not want all my creativity as a artist or other musical/exp/artists to be used for exactly what their expression is against while some suit sits back and says, "This will make us a lot of $$!"
Dear:Newspapers: Nuvo, Intake/Indy.com, Indianapolis Star:
PLEASE DO NOT PUT IMAGES OF ME IN YOUR NEWSPAPER OR ONLINE WRITING ABOUT ME DUE TO THE FACT THAT YOUR MEDIA SOURCE IS COMMERCIALIZING AND EXPLOITING ME ALONGSIDE PRODUCT ADS THAT USE THEIR PROFITS TO CONTRIBUTE TO GENOCIDE,WAR, AND THE COLONIZATION OF INDIGENIOUS CULTURES.
YOU ARE EXPRESSIVELY USING VISUAL MEDIA TO SELL WHAT IS DESTROYING A CULTURE OF ART AND CREATIVITY.
Sincerely:
Vern Vermon O' Dreary Scavenger
with: Seamstress Scavengershey lisa. whats the word on cheap studio space these days? any leads?
my only idea for a show is works done with materials stolen from the workplace; paper, whiteout, pens, probably more illegal material that would get the show shut down.... onthecusp.org - scott is a freakin genius.
Haha! You look extremely bored in your profile pic.
thanks a bunch! nice to meet you. :3
Hello city/country mouse! Yes, we do seem to have a lot in common! I finally read your comment, a month later. Shows you how often I've been logging in lately. I'm really intrigued by the meditation group that your a part of, would you mind giving me some more info? Sounds like something that I've been looking for...
Hello DESIGNING WOMAN... I never realized that there were so many graphic designers in this city... ...
It was cool to run into you at the Derby! I managed to find my friends in the suicide seats.
Hey there! I found you totally by accident! I was looking for articles about animal abuse to help Tree write a paper about animal welfare for her English class, and I came across your blog post where you posted my e-mail about the puppy mill protests. Thanks for passing that on to everybody, by the way. We had a great turnout, and hopefully more people are learning the truth. Talk to you soon and, yes, we will have lunch as soon as the sun shines more and my money bag sags a bit more. ;-) hugs
P.S. - My nickname in H.S. was Mouse. Can't imagine why.
Thanks for the info. Sounds fun, a little too far out of the way for me. I did pick up a book on meditation, so I think I'm going to start practicing at home.
Hope your having a great day!

Ready for what some might refer to as blatant self-promotion? Here goes I want to personally invite all of my Indy.com fans to stop by an art exhibit that will have two of my works in it. The exhibit, titled "Elegant Funk", will be at Wug Laku's Studio & Garage, Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 Brookside Ave., Suite c7. The exhibit is a part of IDADAs First Friday event, Friday August 1, 5-9 pm.
To get to the gallery, drive NE on Mass Ave to where it "Ts" at 10th street just after the art district. Turn east onto 10th, then turn north at the second traffic light (Brookside). Look for the banner. Plenty of parking will be on the right, gallery on the left. For more info:
