Thanks for the welcome... I started out shooting bands and events, I'm moving more toward the Modeling portfolios and anything paid! haha... I'll add some photos to my gallery tonight. Thanks again, Jeremiah
I posted quit a few band and modeling photos, a few out at ORP... All the band photos are with a 50mm F1.8 on an XTi. Any hints you can give me on getting into more paid work or maybe making this hobby full time?
If we're talking about the Rathskeller, I owe you about 52 beers. At their prices, that's like, two pay checks away. I'm totally down for it...depsite still being dehydrated from that last trip. Identity and Man Size beers....mmmmmm
I'll bring in the pics and get your expert opinion and advice. Maybe those cocktails would help. I could be watching that other movie instead of leaving you a comment right now....sigh.
Thanks for the comments. Right now I only shoot with the Kit lens, except for the band gigs and I use the 50mm F/1.8. I do have a website, I'm working on a flash gallery for it. www.jjlaughner.com About 6 months ago it was for my trucks and modifications as well as info on my computer and resume. I just swapped it over to this new layout for the time being. A lot of the models I work with are from Model Mayhem and One Model Place, or word of mouth (see site gallery for links).
The shoot outs are a lot of fun. There was three this year, I made it to two of them. Dean Scott, local Glamour/Fashion Photog, hosts the Shootouts. It started one weekend when he had no shoots lined up, very last minute, send out a bulletin on Myspace to all models and photographers to show up at the Canals downtown at 10am. You grab a model go shoot, come back swap people and shoot more. The second shoot out (July) was also at the Canals and this past Septembers shoot out was at the Indy Art Center Co-Hosted by Hommage Studios (Travis). Its a lot of fun and great networking. I've got to meet several photogs that I see their work on the modeling sites and well as meeting new models to work with.
New lens would be nice, I've been watching them on eBay they go for about the new price so I've been shopping around for the 28-135 IS lens for general use, figure its an upgrade from my kit lens, and the 70-200 2.8 IS L lens. Once I get some more studio lighting, I'll worry about the new lens, then comes the 5D (hopefully in a year the prices will drop enough because of the 40D and new 1D MarkIII's ).
I'll keep you posted on the Shootouts in the spring...
Ahhh...photographers in front of the camera...you know how that goes. Actually, I guess there are quit a few photos of me both ways. Gotta keep it at least a little professional here there.
Graduated Butler in late 2004. Going to star school again next semester. Though, to be honest, at this point, I haven't decided if I'm going to start my M.S in Library Science, or go for my ESL license. Thoughts?
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I'm pretty excited. I'm just not ready to be "Miss Johnson" yet, lol. So does eating cheese and picking your nose go hand in hand.....? That might make a curious combination.
Well I plan on going to the game, so we'll see!! But win or lose, there will be tailgating and IU bars involved, so IU will Rock no matter what! (if -- I mean WHEN -- we win, it will make it even better, of course!)
Nope, no modeling; those were just for fun, I have no use for them. Besides, I can't model-I like to eat!!! I just sling booze at the largest nightclub/concert venue in BR.
Hey thanks for supporting smoke free air. We need smart people who support smoke free venues in order to strengthen our current law. If you would not mind filling out your info in the attached link as a supporter that would be great: (http://www.smokefreeindy.com/contact/)
all that it would mean is that you support the cause, and once we go back to strengthen our current law we will be calling on you to send an email, call, write a letter or something else easy. Oh, and we do not share our list. Thanks.
The countdown to the Oaken Bucket has begun! In about 24 hours, IU will be kicking Purdue's butt!! Have fun at the game. (and tailgating and bars, obviously)
Thanks, I can't wait! And remember, you will be in Hoosier territory, so I'd keep the gloating and Purdue cheering to a minimum! haha. Maybe we'll run into each other tailgating in the lot, haha.
yep, i've been pretty fortunate... until now :(
just joking, indy has it's shining moments
so i read you're a golfer... i've been looking for an inexpensive place near broad ripple, any suggestions?
Glad we shared a Subway excursion today. I can't wait for Turkey Day. I'm holding out for my mom's famous "Disco frozen fries with burnt ketchup glaze". Truly, it brings that old holiday feeling back every time. Now, if she'd just serve them in a frying pan....
You know, in some cultures burlap bag flavor is quite delicious and a rare treat. You should be so lucky. The tradition is, if you work the day after Thanksgiving everyone orders White Castles. Now, isn't that delightful.
I am not sure if you know Santa but could you tell him that I really want a hat for Christmas...and if it isn't too much to ask, could it say "I Heart Kroger Beef"? Thanks! I've been real good this year. Oh, and some knitting supplies too. Thanks!
Hows it going? Heard you had a shoot from MM. How do you like the site, how was the shoot. I've been shooting daily for the last week and the next two or three days are booked up also. I'm EXHAUSTED!!! haha Time to start working up photos. I'll have some new stuff posted soon... myspace.com/jjlaughner
yeah there is a few no call no shows... models can be flaky! but usually just late. Keep at it.
I've been shooting daily. A few shoots last week, then this past weekend I had a location shoot with all the studio gear. I'm working with a plus size agency, X Change Models, out of Chicago that has several branches in New York, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, etc... We had a Meet and Greet Friday and an Open calls on Saturday. Sunday I had a 20-30's theme shoot with some period hair do's that came out great. Monday I attempted a Clock Work Orange style shoot but wardrobe fell through so we shot it in a little black dress... Tonight there is a "travel" shoot, Christmas themed and a fashion set (same girl). Thursday another Christmas set, Sunday a family photo shoot. Otherwise I have a couple days to workup photos. I'm working with a model and a Makeup Artist to build up all three portfolios so there's a sprinkle of those shoots here and there and more to come. I'm back to looking for a real (ie; fulltime) job though. Just not enough of the good paid shoots to keep up with everything else going on.
Ah. Thanks for letting me know... I was at the Creepin' Charley show... who are, by the way, playing again this weekend at Radio Radio. I highly recommend it :)
Have a very Crusty Christmas and a Flakey New Year! (I'm a little early on the well wishing, but it seemed appropriate) It was chocolate covered, ketchup crusties in the picture. I would've saved you a piece but it was just too delicious.
do they have guy roller derby??? i might be able to get enthused about men on roller skates....in short shorts...perhaps...depending on how hairy they are...maybe not...
We enjoyed the "Mountain Dew" so much we drank 5 bottles of it. Then the wife woke up the next day and lost what was left when she saw someone pour a bottle of wine on TV. Cheers to the Dinner Nerds!
Don't let him fool ya. He didn't make any of these pictures. His camera did all the work. All he did was push a button. In fact, I heard his camera was arrested over the weekend behind some bushes. The sad part is that Marc was also jailed as an accomplice.
If had any more beers than at the Rathskellar once upon a time, it would definitely be downhill from there....FALLING down, that is. :-) Whew...
Bar Crawls rock!
Good to see you at the game. I left Tom a message about a 20D.
I'm loving the new body, haven't shot with the dark side since I used a 8008 for two or three days back in the 90's. It's really very nice, the whole system.
Well you know the tax year was almost over and I needed another deduction. :-)
The Canon 17-55 IS I was using was an extended rental. Optically it was very nice, but I couldn't live with it. It felt like a toy and I expect something more for my $900. I do like the build of my 580ex II more than the SB-800 but the Nikon's results are more consistent.
I was really just treading water until Canon released a smaller body with 49-point AF. I'll be keeping at least one Canon body and a coupla lenses for special purposes... for now... Although I've heard Nikon might have some interesting fast primes come this PMA.
I'm very happy with the IQ I'm getting from it. The tonality and color are spot on, I look forward to making some big prints from it. High ISO performance is dandy, NEFs clean up nice and I'm fine with the in camera noise reduction set to "Low" for jpgs.
Skin tones are a little different than what I'm used to, not better or worse. The Nikon glass seams to be colder in tone than the Canon glass I'm used to. It's a minor thing... but I'm anal.
There appears to be a 1EV hit in the dynamic range in the green channel in both 14-bit and 12-bit when you move from ISO 200 to 100. However in 14-bit there's a 1EV increase in the red channels dynamic range when moving from ISO 200 to 100.
I'm betting there's so little difference that's it's mostly irrelevant for everyday use. I've not had any reason to shoot at 100 so far, err, perhaps next time I'm wadding in a river with my tripod and want a nice blurred waterfall or some crap :-)
I'd be interested to hear your findings from the roller derby with the 3D AF. I've found it good in most situation. It's freaked out on me a couple of times though.
It seems to need a bit of color contrast to work worth a damn. I tried shooting a gray parrot (you know like the big sqwaky kind) in a fairly monotone environment with it and it couldn't track it for anything.
My biggest complaint is that in Auto AF point selection mode with Continuous Servo focus active the active focus points aren't displayed at all. But that has nothing to do with the 3D AF.
Man I'm geeky. Hope you had a great new years man!
hello. :)
thanks for the welcome!
Oooh boy, i love doing all sorts of photography ... let's see ... i would say my favs are anything editorial style (candids are my most favorite) and food/dining. I'm utterly obsessed with food photography.
what all do you shoot?
i'm learning but eager to do lots more.
why, thank you!
it's one of my favs as well - i'm ADDICTED to food photography and l o v e gourmet food/shooting (especially fries!), haha.
those particular frites/sauces are part of the "L'Enorme" at the brugge in broadripple (you've gotta try it!) - and they have crepes almost as good as the ones they make in france! :)
My event ran really really late. I couldn't find the darn thing and got there around 9pm as it was ending... after driving around for almost two hours. Sigh.
My lovely new 70-200VR is at Nikon Service getting a mis-aligned element replaces. I have great luck with 70-200's no matter what the brand it seems.
It hasn't mattered much to me, I've been sick as a dog for the last week or two. Lovely winters!
You got it... how would you stay social with out me?! Ha! Go home already! I'm workin' till 5:30 then heading to a talk by Google about their marketing and client based services.
I Don't have a picrure yet but I liked yours and I am new to town and to the site, so just checking it out. I used to do some Military Photography and journalism too. Have a great day.
Burp. Hot dogs taste good.
Need to keep an eye on this guy...things have a tendency to go missing or to be moved when he's around... Coincidence...I think not! :)
Has anyone seen my pants?
I like picking my nose, too. We should start a Nosepicker's Club.
Marcus!! Being that you're the photographer...shouldn't you have some pics uploaded? Just a thought my friend. Hahah.
I'm officially an Indy.com'er now!
My cat scratched the crap out of my wife and then ran away in tears. He's a puss.
Okay...don't keep the rock star waiting...I plan on being an Indy.com icon, and icons need good photos.
Nice....really nice.
Thanks for the comment. I think everyone that finds out that I work at Sallie Mae is either like "where?" or "I have a beef with them!" ;)
So the pic of the dude breathing fire...that you in the morning?
Can you superimpose a california state prison id tag on that?
NINJA...NINJA RAP! Gotta love the rockin' song from TMNT 2. Yes, I just made a Vanilla Ice reference. Deal with it.
If it makes you feel any better, I watched Identity AGAIN. That makes up for the other movie I didn't watch, right?
Thanks for the welcome... I started out shooting bands and events, I'm moving more toward the Modeling portfolios and anything paid! haha... I'll add some photos to my gallery tonight. Thanks again, Jeremiah
I posted quit a few band and modeling photos, a few out at ORP... All the band photos are with a 50mm F1.8 on an XTi. Any hints you can give me on getting into more paid work or maybe making this hobby full time?
Marc, I think your avatar photo needs to be toned properly. Who are you?
Yeah, funny thing is..the staff profiles do not have the same functions..so I can't change my avatar pic.
She said that she needed a fluffer! You're in the wrong industry...
Thanks for your help today! You are the doughnut master!
Tone that picture man!
Who am i to talk avitar appears to have a bit to much yellow.
Thanks Marc! Hmmm I just moved from South Bend, born and raised! :P
When I start working on the floor at Aveda I'll let you know, you can come visit :)
MMMMmmmmm.....doughnut master
Wanna come to our Halloween Party tomorrow??? I would like to see you there, I am gonna be a bumble bee! Hahahaha, let me know
When is Doughnut Promotion Round 2??
MY Mark....what a big lens you have.
Shipments come in daily! You just gotta be here when the good stuff rolls in. :)
Am I the only one who still shoots with a 110?
Actually, "the horns" is my staple pose.
Keep on clicken...
Thanks..
Mostly not... but I'd say I have a touch of the mad in me ;)
Ahhh...photographers in front of the camera...you know how that goes. Actually, I guess there are quit a few photos of me both ways. Gotta keep it at least a little professional here there.
Cool,see you out sometime.
Thanks for helping out on Wally World today! Now I can go home and rest easy with my view of work.
Graduated Butler in late 2004. Going to star school again next semester. Though, to be honest, at this point, I haven't decided if I'm going to start my M.S in Library Science, or go for my ESL license. Thoughts?
no way, you just haven't been to the right ball state party.
Well, the odds are probably pretty good that I would recognize her. I don't know her by name, however.
Just out of curiosity, what's the "big fun" for this weekend? I'm struggling to come up with something...
Live music... but, I'm poor and leaving the country next week for a little bit. So, I need to save.
Well, I checked out the Big Car deal, but, other than that, it was a pretty uneventful weekend. Thanks, though :)
Yes, apparently you are. I'm feeling a little unloved :(
Hahaha...
Ya, check out nuvo.net/video or my myspace page myspace.com/kishfish The state fair one and the salsa dancing ones are pretty good...
I absolutly love the photography!....Very inovative and fresh! Thank you for your comments as well, but i have along way to go! eric

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I'm pretty excited. I'm just not ready to be "Miss Johnson" yet, lol. So does eating cheese and picking your nose go hand in hand.....? That might make a curious combination.
Thanks for the comment! You got some pretty nice shots yourself.
Woah! IU rocks, and you know it!! The Hoosiers are gonna squash Purdue at the Oaken Bucket next weekend! (hopefully...!)
Watching superbad... flippin' hilarious!
Will be downtown again today... for the colts game!
Why, yes, yes I am a complete dork. Oh, and I'm easily distracted by shiny objects as well ;)
One to many Jager Bombs equals face to urinal cake.
Yes, please. Just not jelly-filled. Ew. Drop it by. :P
Well I plan on going to the game, so we'll see!! But win or lose, there will be tailgating and IU bars involved, so IU will Rock no matter what! (if -- I mean WHEN -- we win, it will make it even better, of course!)
Your gallery is amazing! Nice work :)
If real is what you can feel, smell, taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain
Nope, no modeling; those were just for fun, I have no use for them. Besides, I can't model-I like to eat!!! I just sling booze at the largest nightclub/concert venue in BR.
WE should.. I think she works Thursday and Friday's.. dunno if she works more than that or not.
Hey thanks for supporting smoke free air. We need smart people who support smoke free venues in order to strengthen our current law. I could go up there for a little bit before going downtown =)
always like eating dinner there

yep, i've been pretty fortunate... until now :( just joking, indy has it's shining moments so i read you're a golfer... i've been looking for an inexpensive place near broad ripple, any suggestions?
"Bob Turkey" - new to the profile page - check us out (gallery is on its way)
Glad we shared a Subway excursion today.
Now, isn't that delightful.

thanks for ruining my day...haha...i kid i kid.
That is what I do at work! Wear silly hats and take pictures...keep your eyes peeled for pilgram rachel.
Oh funny guy, I don't think now is the time for any Purdue fan to be talking trash though....haha
I was too just like I was every other game. I was just joking though, not trying to be a dick. Come down and see the Oaken Bucket whenever you want.
Thanks for the Big Fun update. I just got back into the country the other day, so, I'm a bit out of the swing of things. Just... utterly bored.
Do the Roux. Doux the Roux. Ready to Roux. Rock the Roux. Roux for You. I've got more.
only one place, i want to say it was off of westfield, but i'm not sure, it was a while ago
Hahah...how Roux'd of you.
Do you own a wide lens?
so would you be willing to give FREE languae lessons?
Thanks Marc! You've got a pretty good eye yourself! ;-)
Hows it going? Heard you had a shoot from MM. How do you like the site, how was the shoot. I've been shooting daily for the last week and the next two or three days are booked up also. Thank you! Lemme know if the D300 performed as well as we all hope it did :-)
It was good to chat.
I would've saved you a piece but it was just too delicious.
nice work. fellow imaging guy. mostly moving images... Check out my stuff if you get a chance.

so...what % of the audience is female? I'm completely intrigued by this whole concept!!
Oh yeah, its true. She barfed at the mere sight of chardonnay on TV. She's a champ.
Yes. Monday. Noodles. Well, whatever it is called now.
thanks again! nice meeting you!
I've been searching for a fresh copy of InTake all day and still no luck!! I sent my husband out and told him not to come back without one! :-)
Yes. WTTS gals are drinkers. Nice to meet you!
Thanks for signing my guestbook!

Shot the Nikki Blaine Fashion Show Wednesday night, couple photos in my Gallery and all the images are on my Myspace profile...
Thanks, I thought the avatar was appropo for the name of my band... ;)
So do you take band pics (ie promo)? samples, prices?
Double Captains and SoCo & Lime... not a good idea!
you want to buy one of my Spiderlady prints, dont you?
Good to see you at the game. I left Tom a message about a 20D.
I'm loving the new body, haven't shot with the dark side since I used a 8008 for two or three days back in the 90's. It's really very nice, the whole system.
Sigh, now to buy another body and a 70-200VR :-)
Well you know the tax year was almost over and I needed another deduction. :-)

You'll probably find this entertaining, someone did a controlled comparison of the D2x, D300, and D3 at low ISO. http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/600737
I see a difference in contrast and shadow detail between the three... That's about it.
yeah, it takes talent to have negative Karma points!!! I've been bad!
Yeah I knew about the whole shooting at ISO 100 on the D3 and D300, I would have rather seen the test at the native base ISO, but eh oh well.
These paint an interesting picture of shooting at ISO 100: http://kammagamma.com/articles/nikon-d300-how-much-of-an-improvement.php
There appears to be a 1EV hit in the dynamic range in the green channel in both 14-bit and 12-bit when you move from ISO 200 to 100. However in 14-bit there's a 1EV increase in the red channels dynamic range when moving from ISO 200 to 100.
This fellow made a geeky bar graph from his own test: http://www.nikonians.org/dcforum/DCForumID202/26909.html
I'm betting there's so little difference that's it's mostly irrelevant for everyday use. I've not had any reason to shoot at 100 so far, err, perhaps next time I'm wadding in a river with my tripod and want a nice blurred waterfall or some crap :-)

i would...however....i am a little booked up....my new man (Frank the dog) is taking up my lunch hours...but soon...very soon.
Thanks, Marc. Appreciate it!
I want that camera, and I want it NOW! I have technology-envy in a big way!
I know, man. You turn your back and ASquared posts two in a row with 3 pictures each to get that boost. I'll be back.
hello. :) thanks for the welcome! Oooh boy, i love doing all sorts of photography ... let's see ... i would say my favs are anything editorial style (candids are my most favorite) and food/dining. I'm utterly obsessed with food photography.
