"On the way downtown I stopped at a bar and had a couple of double Scotches. They didn't do me any good. All they did was make me think of Silver-Wig, and I never saw her again."

I was born and raised on the southeastside of Marion County (the Wanamaker, Acton area, to be precise) and have been proud to call Indianapolis "home" all my life. I did, however, take a brief detour up north, where I attended the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago, graduating with honors from the Le Cordon Bleu program. After returning from "City of the Big Shoulders", I was fortunate to gain employment as a cook with a prestigious downtown restaurant, while simultaneously becoming familiarized with the educational aspects of Culinary Arts by my involvement with a local high school, where I currently teach.

While Culinary Arts and education are my vocations, writing has become my avocation. Over the past few years my work has been published in 63 Channels, Ellipsis, Tipton Poetry Journal, Flying Island, and I'm a two-time recipient of the "Best Of Poetry" Award for IUPUI's literary and arts journal, genesis Magazine.

I teach, cook, write, exist, and dwell on Indy's southside.

How great. We need to invent a new term for that. I'm nominating "Saturday Nightmarable," in loving homage to the defunct "Saturday Nightmares" on USA back in the 80s.

That was a great night of TV: A bad 70s horror flick and episodes of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "The Hitchhiker," and/or "The Ray Bradbury Theater."

Ooh, ooh...how 'bout "Elviriffic"? I liked Saturday Nightmares more, but this one rolls off the tongue a little better.

I am very impressed with your writing abilities and your creative imagery. Of course, I also appreciate your perceptions on food and the locale as well.

Hi, Clint. Great to hear from you. So, I take it from your tag list that you're a Twin Peaks fan? Is that a reference to the TV show? (Ya know, you just gotta ask, because a lot of misunderstandings and confused looks can be avoided. As for me, I'm taking about the Mark Frost and David Lynch TV series.) The reason I ask is that I just bought the Gold Box series on DVD, which includes the original U.S. pilot, so if you want to compare notes ...

"There's a fish in the perculator!"

P.S. If you're not referencing the TV show, then never mind.

"The owls are not what they seem."

Hey, just wanted to say hi, see how things were going. I wanted to tell you I got to spend a week last summer eating Chef Bricker's cooking. He came to Gatlinburg with my new church's youth group and he was our chef for the week. I didn't place where I new him from until Thursday and we got there on Monday! He's also my senior pastor's brother and our worship leader's dad. Bricker is kind of like Rockey here. I'd like to chat but I'd rather not leave my contact info on a message board. You can hit me on myspace if you want, myspace.com/agrubster. Talk to you soon! Amanda

I agree, it has been an obscene amount of time. I just emailed one of Jeff's kids today. I don't see him as often as I see his kids, two are in my youth group and I see them at least twice a week. My little one is now taller than me and she's very proud of that. School is going very well for her first year of junior high, I think she might finish with straight A's but I won't know for sure until tomorrow. She's just as stupid busy as I am, she bowl's (she's bowled two 200 games in the last couple months and finished first in the City Tournament), she taking horse-back riding lessons, she plays the bass clarinet in the band, runs track and cross-country. This is starting to sound like a Christmas letter. :) I'm a proud mama, what can I say. We've had a lot of really cool stuff happen in the last year or so, so things have been pretty amazing. Let me know how things have been going with you! It appears you've certainly been busy since we last talked. Have you been back to Southminster at all? Talk to you later, Amanda
