Amy's work is gorgeous!
I have seen Amy's work before and these new larger works are beautiful. She limits her palette to the colors of a muddy, fall day and it suits her. There are no bright, eye-popping colors to distract from the interplay of accident and intentional brushmarks. I had not seen Ralph's work before and for my first impression the work was strong. He too limits his palette to more subtle tones working in a style reminiscent of maybe early Diebenkorn with an influence from a more organized all-over Miro with the inclusion of ever-so-slightly recognizable images such as a coffee cup in one piece. Overall, the show is strong. Two negative points: I wish Amy didn't give her work overt landscape titles because it can narrow the viewers visual experience of the work and Ralph had some framing inconsistencies. I would really like to see more of his work to see a wider array of color options as well.
