U2 3D

650 W. Washington St., Indianapolis
(5 ratings)

Call for times.

Marrying innovative digital 3-D imagery and multi-channel surround sound with the excitement of a live U2 concert - shot in South America during the final leg of their "Vertigo" tour - it creates an immersive theatrical experience unlike any 3-D or concert film that has come before.

Ushering in a new dimension of filmmaking, U2 3D takes viewers on an extraordinary journey they will never forget.

U2 3D is directed by Catherine Owens, U2's visual content director for more than 15 years, and Mark Pellington, who directed U2's "One" video. The production utilized the largest collection of 3-D camera technology ever used on a single project.

The production crew shot at huge outdoor stadium shows (not seen in North America) at cities in four countries including Mexico City, Mexico; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Santiago, Chile; and Buenos Aires, Argentina. All told, over 100 hours of digital 3-D footage was shot, documenting a set list that includes such seminal U2 songs as "Pride (In the Name of Love)," "New Year's Day," "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "Miss Sarajevo," "Where the Streets Have No Name," "With or Without You," "Bullet the Blue Sky" and "One," as well as more recent tracks such as "Beautiful Day," "Love and Peace or Else," "Vertigo," "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" and "Yahweh."

3ality Digital's Jon Shapiro, Peter Shapiro, John Modell and Steve Schklair, along with Owens, produced the 3ality Digital presentation. 3ality Digital's Sandy Climan, Michael Peyser and David Modell are executive producers.

How was it?

I had free tickets to the premiere from Best Buy, but I forgot all about it because it was in the middle of the week (a Thursday, I think). How was it? I'm not much of a U2 fan, but I think the concept of 3D concert films is pretty cool.

U2 3D is trippy!

i'm not the biggest U2 fan in the world but this film is worth seeing. The 3D imagery is flat-out trippy! Having Bono and The Edge come right at you is crazy! You also get the sense that you're actually in the concert audience. The only problem I had with it is that the sound is terrible at the Indiana State Museum. This is a concert film and it sounds like you're listening through your ipod.

U2 3D the second time..

It was paid for, and I enjoyed it the first time, so I went again. This time in Philadelphia (as forementioned). This time the theater was not an IMAX. While still v. cool, and still 3D, not as amazing as in an IMAX. So, while I recommend this film, as the 3D is amazing, spend the extra 5 or so bucks for the FULL expirence and go to the IMAX.

(So, I didn't realize this was going to delete my first review by posting more information. I went to the IMAX in Indy the first time to see the concert (all concert in the film, no bio or back story or anything). It was awesome, even if you're not a huge U2 fan, I would recommend it cause the 3D was awesome--although if you're really not a fan, I think they're coming out with an 3D about ocean animals.)

Even Better Than The Real Thing...

I saw them when they played Conseco and this movie was ALMOST more realistic than being at that actual concert. I've never really been sold on IMAX or anything in 3-D. This movie changed all of that. I've seen U2 3-D three times. It's an awesome flick and not to be missed.
