Today:
Calame, a Los Angeles-based artist, is best known for her large-scale works that trace and mimic the stains and patterns found on paved urban surfaces. Her exhibition at the IMA is based on the tire marks and other patterns that pepper the asphalt surface of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The end result is large-scale colored pencil drawings and enamel-on-aluminum paintings created over the course of 18 months. This marks the first time that all of the artist's works in the series have been exhibited in one venue.

Wow interesting idea. very neat. burnouts and tire mark always interested me never thought about turning them into art let alone colorful art. Great job. You are very talented.
the art is amazing. Everyone needs to check this one out. It reminds me of countless memories of the speedway. I messed up the stars
I thought this show was great because of the simplicity of the concept. I took my two oldest children once to explain the process she and her aides went through to produce the work and we have decided to make a summer project out of attempting to do the same process.
The work is bright and filled with energy and I love the paradox created by the excitement of the line work in comparison to the mundane process of tracing. This show was a must-see!
Cool process, cool product
This show was created by tracing skid marks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and blending these marks with other found marks on streets and sidewalks. These tracings were then transformed into lovely, abstract drawings and paintings that hang in the Forefront Galleries. While the lines are long for the Roman Art exhibit showing things we've seen before (at least in books) Calame's work is fresh and arresting and comes from the kind of process (controlled chaos) that helps make it possible to do something brand new in this time when it's all been done before.
