Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE to dance. My favorite? Salsa dancing. I’ve been dancing salsa as a hobby for more than four years. It’s a passion that becomes an addiction when my work life isn’t running rampant.

Well… I have found a new love. Breakdancing! (Hush, Staten)

Thanks to my new cronie, DJ Top Speed, I witnessed firsthand, my first ever breakdancing competition on Saturday. It was way cool. The energy was so high that I wanted to get out there and jump around the floor so bad, but the police my friend wouldn’t let me, dangit.

I was completely amazed at how the level of expertise and style I saw during the show. Major props and shouts out to b-boys, Weapons of Rhythm! PLEASE click the link below and see the hottest little folks doin’ the thing! Kudos to these young people for doing something positive and adding their personal flava to the culture.

All the dancers had super-hot moves; mostly pop-lockin’, shakin’ and spinning. I decided I could probably learn that part with some expert training; but really, I want to spin on my head!

Here’s a look at what I mean … Check out the Naptown Rollers gettin’ it!

Wanna learn with me? I found a few instructional videos that can put us well on our way to the B-girl Hall of Fame, in no time flat:

Windmills –

Footwork –

Watch out b-boys! I’m crossin over… Sorry Yang!
(you know I’m kidding about leaving salsa… I plan to do BOTH! Hahahahahaha!)

Next post: Keianna Rae, breakdancin’s newest b-girl, spins on her head! Yessss!

Indy has some talented breakers. I used to go to the Casba fairly frequently when they’d have hip-hop night with Top Speed behind the tables and the dance floor continually rotating with different break dancers. I definitely miss that. Good luck learning Keianna!

Thanks Ben. I’m all the way serious about breakdancing. Although yesterday, I tried that windmill move in the video, and my wrists almost broke. Someone forgot to tell me I need to lose some dam weight before I can be a breaker. Jeezus!

Mission adjusted. 1) Lose 20 lbs, 2) Learn to breakdance.

LOL!

I was just going to comment that I used to see some decent people at the Casba on hip-hop night also…is it ever coming back? I only discovered it shortly before it ended.

Careful Keianna!

Its called the origins of breakdance, and it is not really breakdancing but it is actually kinda reminiscent of some breaking moves…check it out!
