Hump-day is almost over and I’m ready for the LONG holiday weekend… (I’m doin’ the “Humpty Dance”)
With Easter right around the corner, I’m sure all the ladies will be in the salons getting beautified for church on Sunday. Might as well show off the new “doo” to the world and make it a weekend to remember! Here’s what’s up beginning tonight. I’ll be out and about, so be sure to say hey if you see me around!
TONIGHT! Wednesday, April 8
Wear a crown to church this weekend in honor of the holiday… and you gotta go see the play, Crowns
With the production of Crowns, the Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT) brings an inspirational musical to the Circle City – one designed to celebrate the longstanding tradition of African-American women of the south wearing hats of all styles to church. After a family tragedy, a Brooklyn teen is sent to her grandmother’s house in South Carolina. Her journey of cultural and self-discovery is timed to a church day, from morning to the evening processional, featuring a wedding, a funeral, and a baptism.
Check out this short clip of rehearsal…
Directed by Patdro Harris, Crowns is an exploration of history and identity. This incredible story of one young woman’s return to the South dramatizes her education into the ritualized world of hats as an expression of cultural identity.
What: Crowns, adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry; presented by Eli Lilly and Company
When: April 7-May 2, 2009; Preview Nights April 7-9, 2009
Opening Night Friday, April 10, 2009
Where: Indiana Repertory Theatre, Mainstage, 140 W. Washington St.
