I love to promote young kids in their aspirations to become actors and the students of the Young Actors Theatre school just do not disappoint in this unique rendition of Sleeping Beauty at the American Cabaret Theatre. They have one more performance today so if you are out and about, I encourage you to check it out. This urban re-telling of the classic story features Briar Rose, Evilina (wasn’t that the name of the Wicked Witch in The Wiz?) and a colorful assortment of costumes and references to today’s gadgetry like cell phones and ipods. (Imagine the Disney fairies bestowing the fair haired princess with a cell phone!) The kids participate in classes that help them learn the acting craft then perform in a show at the end of the session so that they can show off their skills. Yes, the audience is mainly parents, but it is still a lot of fun to see kids having the time of their lives. 2p.m. today…don’t miss it before the big games! Also, the group will be offering a free showing of their Alice in Wonderland production at the Central Library…there was an announcement about it so be sure to take in a free show and see these talented kids strut their stuff!
