Why did you become a teacher: My mom was a teacher, and I always watched her grade papers and prepare for her class. I thought that was something I’d like to do also. During college and student teaching as I was able to work with students, I realized I had chosen the right field. I find it very rewarding.
What goals do you have for your students: I want my students to enjoy coming to school every day. I would like for them to feel free to question things they may not understand. As they grow throughout the year, I’d expect them to be confident in their abilities and able to address any weaknesses in a positive manner. By the end of the school year, I would like for them to feel they have had a successful school year.
What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills: I encourage parents to reinforce concepts learned at school. They should encourage a positive attitude about schoolwork. When parents and teachers work closely together, the child feels encouraged to perform to the very best of their abilities.
Name your favorite movie: “Titanic.”
What’s something your students might not know about you: My mom was my fourth-grade teacher. I was a little confused about what I should call her at school. “Mom” didn’t seem appropriate, but I couldn’t call her Mrs. either.
