A 20-year-old woman who appeared in court today to face handgun charges walked out facing an unrelated murder charge.

April McKenney was arrested at 1 p.m. in Marion County Superior Court and preliminarily charged with murder, said Sgt. Paul Thompson, a spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

McKinney is accused of killing Gregory Ray, 33, Indianapolis, on Saturday morning. Ray was found inside a home at 2024 Roosevelt Ave. at 8:55 a.m.

IMPD Homicide Det. William Rogers said McKenney had an appearance in court on unrelated handgun charges. He said information from residents led him to McKenney.

Police have not disclosed the motive for the Ray’s shooting.
