NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup moves to Week 6 this weekend at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Here’s where the 12 drivers stand:

1.

Jimmie Johnson (leader):

How does he keeping winning championships? He has 11 wins and 21 top-five finishes in the past 31 Chase races, and he has won four of the past five races at Martinsville.

2.

Mark Martin (minus-90):

Finishing 17th at Charlotte cost him 78 points to Johnson. Lost 100 points, points lead since Chase began.

3.

Jeff Gordon (minus-135):

He has finished second, second and fourth in the past three races to trail Martin by just 45 points.

4.

Tony Stewart (minus-155):

Average finishes in first five Chase races: Johnson 3.2, Gordon 5.8, Martin 6.2 and Stewart 8.4.

5.

Kurt Busch (minus-177):

Has no Chase finishes better than fifth. That won’t cut it.

6.

Juan Pablo Montoya (minus-195):

The misstep at Charlotte cost him, and he won’t be comforted in knowing last year’s sixth-place driver midway through the Chase was 207 points back.

7.

Greg Biffle (minus-268):

Was third after five Chase races last year and 86 points behind. Johnson was seventh in ’06, 146 points back, and rallied to win.

8.

Ryan Newman (minus-288):

Hasn’t finished better than seventh in any Chase race.

9.

Kasey Kahne (minus-331):

It’s feast or famine. Has three finishes of eighth or better dragged down by a 34th and a 38th.

10.

Carl Edwards (minus-341):

Trimmed 100 points off Johnson’s lead last year. A repeat won’t steal the title this year, either.

11.

Denny Hamlin (minus-372):

Look at the bright side: He was 12th at this point last year.

12.

Brian Vickers (minus-485):

No bright side to this: Last place last year was 105 points closer.
