Fremont — Police say a body found in a densely wooded area of far-northeastern Indiana is believed to be that of a severely diabetic man who vanished last month.

The body was recovered Thursday in Steuben County after an Indiana State Police airplane discovered the remains less than a half-mile from 48-year-old Stuart Stalcup’s home.

Steuben County Sheriff Rick Lewis says the body has not been positively identified as Stalcup’s, but the clothes and physical characteristics match.

Authorities issued a Silver Alert for Stalcup on Oct. 11 after he left his family’s home near Snow Lake in Fremont, about 45 miles north of Fort Wayne.

Relatives said he had no insulin with him when he left.
