Greensburg — Indiana State Police say a man involved in a police shooting in southeastern Indiana has died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Police say Dustin Wise, 27, Fortville, died late Thursday at an Indianapolis hospital and that preliminary autopsy results show he shot himself in the head.

A Greensburg police officer reported spotting a vehicle on I-74 on Tuesday night that was believed connected to armed robberies in Batesville and Lawrenceburg.

Officers reported that the driver didn’t stop and then drove on Ind. 3 until stopping about two miles north of Greensburg. Officers then heard and saw gunfire coming from the vehicle and returned fire.

State Police say Wise fired one shot and that officers fired three shots that struck his vehicle.
